weight gain from increased vitamins?
yes, i think i ranged from 50-60 gm protein. of course, per my surgeon 5 years ago! had i known i was supposed to have more, i would have made these changes years ago! btw, i weighed myself today and i am down the 3 that i gained. since i kicked up the shakes, i have had more bathroom issues! but my belly is distended (bad). get this, when i went to my surgeon in july when i first started getting sick, he told me to do situps for my bloated belly. my situps are getting out of bed in and out all day. i cant seem to get enough sleep...ok,i'll up the shakes (gagging at the thought). im in, i will do and can do whatever it takes to get me out of this mess! i will post the labs as soon as i get them. thanks again, youre awesome!
Try switching to whey protein isolate, instead of straight whey protein. Most of the lactose is processed out of WPI. You may have developed lactose intolerance. Some DSer's do for a little while post-op, as the gut flora adjust to the new configuration. If you were already LI, as I was, it will be more pronounced. Now, the only milk product that gets me "going" is ice cream, and I'm sure that's from the simple sugar content, and not from lactose, which is milk sugar. Other dairy products don't have that effect anymore. Whey protein isolate is slightly more expensive than whey protein, because of the extra processing.
After I landed back in the hospital dehydrated 48 hours after my release, my surgeon made the suggestion to switch to WPI. I haven't had a problem since.
I sometimes gets around 150g protein a day (175g is my record). Normally 120-130g minimum - I post on Bites n Vites nearly every day (not that I'm claiming to be a model DSer in anyway - but it may give you some ideas).
My body's eaten my glutes - yes my butt's smaller, but the muscle's decreased (I think the fat's about the same). My quads are as strong as ever though - could do with a little fat reduction there, but there's a lot of muscle still (I spent too many years doing spinning classes).

Gina/MajorMom posts it every day. I don't think I'd ever properly count up my protein if I didn't post.

Hard to say. It may be the increased carbs from the increased shakes, or that may just be the way you lose weight. I wouldn't get into panic mode just yet.
As a kid I was skinny from chronic illness, and my Mom made me take vitamins to gain weight. I never did until after I had my tonsils out, and that put me on the road to obesity. I was probably malnourished from being sick all the time, and my body just started holding on to everything I put in, so even though I was a very active child, I still became obese.
Don't change your vites, but try to get more protein from foods. You don't say how far out you are, but I'm assuming that you've been cleared for solid food. At almost 4 years out, I still do at least two 35g shakes a day as insurance that I get all my protein in, and I have not experienced any weight gain from it.
Bites, Vites and Exercites is a daily accountability blog, where many DSers post what they've eaten every day.
i have been cramping and running to the bathroom all day. spent most of the day in and out of bed. im so trying to get the protein in but to be honest, i am having a time of it! im hoping to create new habits and am really really trying...my husband says, 'youre eating again?' ive had 2 shakes today close to 60 gr. and it is whey protein isolate. i ate a 3rd dinner tonight! i need to really read labels and somehow find a protein counter book. does anyone know of any or where you could recommend getting one?
when i get more energy, i will find the vits and bites thingie, im still waiting on the labs and what vitalady recommends. i just hope this lab shows something. hanging in till thurs results...peace, all!

Dang Jazzyone, you need to read the stuff this girl is posting before you give advice to her.
She has had the DS longer than you and is in mal-nutrition. Some of the stuff you say only pertains to you not anyone else. She needs help, not just jabber.
Do miss that feature where it gives the surgery date on the post.
Edit: never mind. The surgery date IS on the post on the message board but just doesn't show up when replying.
