Need info to give nutritionist about DS maintanence food plan

My PCP wants me to meet with his new nutritionist and give her information about what a person would eat after the weight loss phase with a DS.  She can find information online about pre and post op but not maintenance.  Any suggestions or where to go to get the information??

Thanks,

Molly

How about Dr Elariny's dietitian's contact info? They can just talk.

Each of us is completely individual as to what we eat to maintain.

Some of us need more protien than others...as in some can do well with 100 grams, others need more like 200 grams.

Fat is also an individual issue...do NOT let her talk you into low fat. You only absorb about 20% so if a NORMAL, unaltered person needs 25-30 grams of fat per day, we need an average of 125-150 MINIMUM. Also, many of us get constipated if we don't eat enough fat.

And most of us keep complex carbs to less than 75 (net or about 100 if you count ALL carbs).

The idea is to eat protein first and foremost and if you can't eat enough, you supplement with shakes. Try for a MINIMUM of 30 grams of protein each time you eat (usually 6 times plus a day).

And most of us stay away from simple carbs.

And counting calories is for the birds...

Best way to help her understand is this article:

Thanks for your help. I will give her the contact information. Also thanks for the guidelines. Does Dr. E's nut have any handouts on maintenance?

How much are you going to make as a consultant?

Maintenance for me is vites, protein and water.  Very very very few carbs or I A) gain weight and B) have more gas than is tolerable.

A typical days diet for me is bacon and eggs (1/2 lb bacon and 3 3eggs), ham, peperoni and cheese with mayo, a burger or steak.  About twice a week I have something like french fries or a loaded baked potato.  I eat a lot of Brok's pizza, greek yogurt and popcorn drenched with butter. I eat CarbSmart Ice Cream and loads of Land O Lakes SF whipped cream.  I eat SF pudding (too often) and if I am not eating candy/chocolate (like now) I will get a sugar fix from raisins.  Weird, right?

Hope this helps.

Maintenance, IMO is very individual.  There is the 100g of protein minimum, then the mindfulness of how many simple carbs are consumed.  If you need to stabilize or gain - eat more.  If the scale is creeping up - eat less.  I've kept it that simple.  I've never sweated the complex carbs since we malabsorb more than half of those.
