Back to the basics? When that is said what does it mean
I am almost a year out 2/14/12 and have been stalled for over 4-6 months I lost count. I did gain and was able to drop it down to my magic number of 154 but no more. I thought I lost some but only to find it was simply an accurate scale. So what does it mean back to the basics? If any one can give details I would be appreciative. Details is what I need. Had my surgery in Mexico by Dr U who was awesome but I did not get the instructions others have and when it came to diet I ignored what he said as it did not support what the DS board said. Any one has a basic diet I should be following to get this moving and me back on track I need to shake things up be more responsible.
Thanks
Donna
Basics? High protein (125-200 per day) all the fat you can get and keep those carbs WAY low. Drink your water (loads and loads) and take all your vites. Get comprehensive labs done AT least twice a year. Tweak your vites based on those labs.
That is it as far as I can tell. I'm 3+ years out and had a little gain (stress chocolate eating) but in 3 weeks I have lost a full pants size by "getting back to basics" (and off the damned chocolate haha).
Carbs are sneaky *******s. Count them for a few days to get an idea of how many you are really eating.

were you ever on the Atkins diet or even the South Beach diet? The basics are really just a low carb diet like those. I probably still have the books- and amazon problem does too. They are interesting reading too if you want to understand the concept for the ketosis diets.
I was on a doctor's program similar to both that was a "protein-sparing fast" of old except instead of the liquid protein that was popular in the 70's the doctor I went to used meat. I was on that 10 months and lost 110 pounds. I had 3 ounces of meat 3 times a day, a gallon of water, a tums (for calcium), a multi,& potassium. (I suppose I could have had eggs, cheese, etc too had I understood how it all works.) But having done that, I always remember vividly what "the basics" would be except the DS is much more liberal with fats.
Another diet that is pretty close would be the Suzanne Somers "Somersizing" as she dictates protein & vegetables & no sugar or starches.

Don't give up.
Agree with what others have posted. Back to basics means to eat like a DSer:
Very high protein intake (increase meat, cheese, eggs, nuts, seeds, protein shakes or mixes)
High fat intake (increase butter, mayonnaise, cream cheese, fried food, olive oil)
Very low carb intake (decrease sugar, flour, sweets, cakes, pastries, cereal, potatoes, chips, etc)
Lots of liquids (water, tea, coffee, crystal light, other sugar free drinks)
All of the recommended vitamins and supplements - see recent posts on this board about that
Labs twice a year - or maybe once a year when you are a few years out and stable
Exercise, cardio - not so much to burn calories but to keep your heart muscle healthy
Exercise, weight bearing - to slow or prevent bone loss because DSers often have a problem with that.
