I was about 3 months out...and it was a fountain soda not a canned one. I STILL have issues with the canned but can handle fountain sodas just fine.

I've always been partial to Perrier which is available totally unsweetened so I will try one Saturday and hopefully it won't give me any problems. With a twist of lemon it's fantastic.

It took several months before I could tolerate it, but today, some 7 years later - my diet coke addiction is in full swing.

Dt. Coke didn't taste as good after the Ds, but didn't give up and finally got addicted again.  Had Dt. Coke early out - maybe first week, but poured it over ice and stirred it to get the fizz out.  Still enjoy my coke and other soft drinks "flat".  Can't drink Dt Coke too fast if it is fizzy.

I took the opportunity to give up any carbonated beverages, so it's been over 2 years now. I remember after my first surgery back in 2002, I was rolling around on the floor thinking I was dying after trying to drink root beer : / .

I was given my first diet soda while I was still in the hospital.  Luckily I knew to let it go flat!

I'm approx 4 mos post op so I think it will be safe. I am going to the store to buy a Perrier as soon as I post this. Sometimes I crave a strong beverage to cleanse my palate.

Got it, took my first sip and it is okay so far. Not gonna ru**** or rush through it but it is tasty and a satisfying burp...

I'm 9 years out, and fizzy stuff still fills me up really fast. And fortunately, I've largely lost my taste for Coke Classic---pre-op, I was going through 2-3 liters a DAY, and I'm not talkin' diet, either.

I'm probably going to wait until I'm maintenance to get my favorite fizzy drink back. That would be Corona con lima, por favor!
