I'm considering a revision from RNY to DS

I had RNY in 2005 and went from 460lbs to 280lbs.  Currently I go up and down between 280-300, so I have maintained my weight loss.  The problem is that it seems no matter how hard I work out or what I eat, my body does not want to let the rest of this weight go.  I'm happy that I lost what I did, but tired of being fat and want to do whatever it takes to get the rest of this weight off.  Any tips that you can give me would be great. Also, any Drs in CA. that are successful in these revisions and what types of insurance was used.  As of January I will have Blue Cross POS, I changed in an attempt to get this done.  Any suggestions will help me....Thanks!

Hi Melissa. You have a couple of awesome DS revision docs in California, Keshishian and Rabkin. You can find their contact info on dsfacts.com  http://www.dsfacts.com/North-American-Duodenal-Switch-Surgeo ns.html#ca.

What Gina said!

And, they are the ONLY surgeons in the state of CA to go to.  Do not pass Go, do not collect $200....they are the ONLY ones in CA.  Set up an appt with one of them...the are great!

From where you live, the obvious choice is Dr. Keshishian in Glendale. There are very few surgeons who do RNY to DS conversions as it's a very difficult surgery, and you have the good fortune to be near one of them. Dr. Rabkin is also excellent, but in San Francisco. People travel from all over the country, and sometimes from other countries, for both of these surgeons.

You have actually done better than many people do with your RNY, esp with your maintainence, but I've seen this with a lot of people, that they get to a certain point and no matter how hard they try and how careful and diligent they are, no more weight will come off. I hope you will be able to get the DS and continue to improve your health and quality of life.

Hope that your insurance works out and you can get the revision.  RNY revised to DS worked for me and hope it does for you.  Good luck.

Thank you everyone.  I have contacted Dr. Keshishian and I am waiting to hear back from his office.  I am looking forward to getting the rest of this weight off.  Although I feel like I have accomplished so much and have been able to pretty much maintain my weight loss, my body has shut down when it comes to loosing weight so I need another jump start.  I pray that this is successful for me.
