Have to agree with the others that bariatric doctors are not nutrition specialists. When you need help with a problem, the best help you can find will be from those who have successfully overcome that kind of problem.
Micheleladendorf, you made a good move to post your situation here. Because you did, lots of information was dispensed. This turned into a great thread with lots of good solid information.
It will take a commitment to get your nutrition up to where it needs to be, but it can be done - then it will take a lifelong commitment to do what needs to be done to maintain your health.
ty for your kind words and encouragement! is there someone on this forum that can help me transition to the vita lady? i do not want to throw away the calcium/a and d's...they are dry and brand new. i do need a good multivitamin and iron. i just need to know what doses are standard and when i get my blood results i can customize depending on the findings. i m soooo tired and feel so lousy...;(
I'd start with the 90 day unpackaged vites and go from there (https://vitalady.com/vitanews/starter-packages/ click DRNY, ERNY, BPD, and DS 90 day supply). If you click on that you'll see the doses you should be having and you can remove things such as calcium, Ds & As, if what you have is OK. Make sure you get vitamin K2 as that's not in her packaged vites, but it'll help you improve your calcium absorption and she does sell it. Just start off with a tablet a day unless your labs indicate otherwise.
You can always contact them and get some input on your order.

yea that protein needs to be upped ASAP!
i take in 150-200g of protein a day. if i don't i feel like crap:(
i am worried for you but i am glad you are here and that you going to talk to vitalady. sounds like you need it. your going to be playing catch up and that is going to take a long time before you can get back into normal levels. its going to be a fight but i know you can do it, don't' give up hope. imagine how good you will feel when you actually get the nutrition you need.
When Lori was having all her problems, she started drinking 4-5 protein shakes a day, plus eating. Within a few months she was feeling much better, went back up to 140lbs from 115lbs.

I have the same thing going on. The result of not being vigilant during my Mom's 6 month transition from this life. 4 iron infusions fixed me right up. I have not had the nausea and other issues, but my labs indicated malnutrition and low levels of Vitamin D, Vitamin K, zinc, iron, high PTH ( means your body is leaching calcium from your bones) and my prealbumin tanked (means insufficient protein). I have increased protein supplements and vites, taking very high levels to reverse the drop. I get complete labs next month, and that will tell the tale.
Vitamin and mineral supplementation with the DS is non-negotiable. You have to do it every single day for the rest of your life, as well as getting in at least 90-100 grams of protein every day. I aim for 125 grams myself. How short/long is your common channel? The shortest my doctor does is 75 cm, even if you measure out shorter by the Hess Method. I asked for 50cm, and she refused, saying she'd had to do too many revisions of short CC's because of malnutrition.
I created my issues myself, by not following protocol. I will see my surgeon next month (she does a 5 year follow), and I will have my labs drawn then, to see how much I've improved. It sounds like you aren't getting proper nutritional counseling with your DS. Eating like a RNY will not keep you healthy, and unfortunately, that's all that most dieticians know, since the majority of weight loss surgeries in the US are RNY gastric bypass. Here's my regimen. Nothing that I've said here is medical advice, as I am not a medical professional. It's just what works for me. This is my current regimen, to account for the deficiencies that showed up in my last batch of tests.
By the way, DSer's only absorb 50-60% of the protein and complex carbs eaten, so when you take in say, 30g, figure you're only absorbing around 15g.. so 200g eaten will give you approximately 100g.
