ds revision/reversal for malnutrition?
You should start taking Vitalady supplements ASAP. They're right type of vites for DSers - eg dry and the correct bariatric doses and more comprehensive than anything your surgeon may suggest.
If after seriously trying with correct supplementation then Creon is something I've heard mentioned as being an effective digestive enzyme for DSers. I believe that this is available on script only.

Yes, you're correct that Creon is to stop losing. I hope you figure things out.

omgosh, kerry, you are an absoulute gem for taking the time to share with my your regimen and encouragement. i am going to do exactly what you did, TAKE CONTROL MYSELF.i wish i would have had seen this forum years ago. i am embarassed to admit that i really have dropped the ball in taking control myself. i did not have any support from anyone who knew my surgery so i basically just did as the dr. ordered. i purchased the brands he recommended and have just followed that for the past 5 years...seriously, i was feeling wonderful and had good labs for 5 years doing as dr. ordered. so in july, when i took a nosedive i have to say obvioisly there was something going on for some time and i just was not awarel. so since july, my problems began. i will share with you my latest numbers re: my iron. thats all i have for now until my vitamin blood draw is tomorrow and i will post results when i get them.
vit b12 973..range 230-1050 (good)
ferritin-4... range-6-200 (low)
iron,,35...range 49-167 (low)
uibc...476 range 112-346 (high)
tibc...511..range 205-390 (high)
%iron sat...7.,range 16-50 (low)
folate serum...10..range 1-12(good)
the rest of my iron numbers are in normal range, these labs are before the 2 iron infusions. ill be interested to see if the low ones come up. will post labs and recommendations from my hematologist and bari dr. as soon as i get the appts and results. ty for your concern and kind suggestions. i am going to beat this! blessings, michele

No need to be embarrassed Michele; I think most people are taught to trust the Doctor they see; it's usually a hard sell to get people to question anything their doctor says. What I've found is that most surgeons really don't know diddly about what we need for supplements; they get paid big money for being really good at surgery; which is what we pay them for; not so much for giving nutritional advise.
With your attitude you'll do fine; what you need to know isn't a mystery and there are lots of people who will help you.
Go to Vitalady's web site www.vitalady.com and see what Michele has to offer; she's a WLS patient too and she understands how our altered systems work and what they need. You can email her your labs and she's usually really good about helping you get what you need to get things in shape.
Make yourself a spreadsheet and start keeping track of all your labs so you can see what's going on. I have mine in an EXCEL worksheet which didn't really copy very well to that post. If you want a copy of the EXCEL file, send me a private message with your email address and I'll send you a copy of my file which you can alter for yourself.
You're going to be fine, but it is time to get after it...

wow is all i can say! i can see by all the replys that i need some serious intervention as far as supplements! i am a little overwhelmed...i guess a good place to start is to ask michele to help me if she can with where to start with the vitalady. i aim for 60 grams protein daily, sometimes i go over and sometimes under. but for the most part, protein protein is what i was told by the dr and have been doing that since 07. i was told to use twin labs calcium citrate (dry), vitamin a (dry) vitamin a & d (dry) bcomplex. so i have stuck with this brand for years, my hematologist told me any kind of iron was fine, i have used liquid and tablets 3 x a day since august.
Your protein is way under. The rule of thumb is at least 100grams per day. But a lot of people eat a lot more. You are almost certainly protein deficient and when you said you had "bloating" bells went off in my head. In a very small nut shell, protein keeps your fluid in your veins (and does thousands of extremely important things) and when you don't get enough, you swell. If you do not get enough protein, your body will eat its own protein-your heart is all protein. You need to play catch up now with your protein. I would triple what you have been getting including the addition of whey protein shakes where whey protein ISOLATE is the first ingredient.
You can do this. it is very overwhelming and you have a lot to sink in over a short period of time, but this is how successful DSers live-lots of vites, lab work, and protein.
thanks for the post bu! wow, at first i cried then i got piping mad! how could my dr. allow me to go on for years following what it sounds like a skimpy vitamin and protein routine. no wonder im sick? my husband says my belly looks like a starving child. now im really worried that it is malnutrition? the first thing i am going to do today is get the protein shake you recommended. maybe ill do 2 shakes a day. hey its a start, right?
