Protein Powders
Patty, I have serious issues with 99% of them now cause of the smell. Been that way since I had jaw surgery in March. I was able to drink any of them prior to that. I still had some of my previous brand left so to get rid of it, I just held my nose and pretended it was medicine.
I get most of my protein from food now. I do use a vanilla and add it to other foods to up the protein count. That helps with the smell.
But I can totally understand where you are coming from.

I am sleeved and I have blood sugar issues so take all of that and the differences into account. I also am a rareish case where a sleeved human doesnt absorb all of the dense protein properly (so say my labs, even when eating more than minimums), so to keep my labs normal, I need at least 75 g of protein via powders.
Protein isolates DOUBLE my blood sugars, so those are out. Protein mixes barely blip me. ON Cake Batter is my favorite, can drink day in and day out flavor. You can only get it in 5 lb tubs tho (or I can only find it in 5 lbs at Netrition) so its a commitment :}
Syntrax - the only nectar I liked was a "sweets" and it is the Chocolate Truffle. I like nectar chocolate - but the ON cake batter is my favorite/only vanilla flavor I care for.
ON Almond Toffee Fudge was good too, but I just go with the Cake Batter, since it works in coffee and teas. The syntrax fruity flavors just were not right in my mouth, maybe I just didnt make them right?
Ready to Drink I prefer Premier Nutrition chocolate. In powder I am using Dymatize Elite, rich chocolate, but I like the vanilla as well. My protein levels were low at my 6 month lab check so I have added 1-2 coffee shakes a day, 6oz cold coffee, 4-6 oz of cream, 1.5 scoops of protein powder and shake. I also, like Jay Rob, but it is more expensive. I will be buying some vanilla this week to make coffee with some flavoring just to break it up a bit. I buy at Vitamin Shoppe, which is where I have started buying most of my vites so that I don't have to pay shipping.
I use NOW Sports unflavored Whey Protein Isolate. I was lactose intolerant pre-op, and became moreso immediately post op..
Straight whey ran all my fluids out, and I ended up back in the hospital 48 hours after discharge, getting IV fluids! That's when my surgoen suggested switching to WPI.
At nearly 4 years out, I no longer have to use lactase pills to digest milk products. i use unflavored WPI so I can use extracts to make my shakes any flavor I want. I also use Decaf hazelnut coffee to flavor my shakes, and I currently drink three to five 30g shakes daily., in addition to my high protein nutrition plan, vites and minerals.
