Question about Milk

Hi, I am having surgery the 19th of this month and I understand an eating and lifestyle change need to occur obviously for weight loss to happen and I have gone over posts on here and seen what people can and can't eat and one thing I don't see on here much is anyone talking about drinking milk.  I absolutely love milk and I was curious if any one has had trouble with it, or if I am for the most part in the clear to drink the delicious white substance a in my post surgery future.

Lactaid milk was what our dietician suggested immediately post. Many new post-ops are lactose intolerant at first but it seems to get better with time. A few never are able to handle lactose again. Your mileage may vary (YMMV).
I use heavy whipping cream and a little water to make my protein coffees in the mornings and we only buy 1/2 & 1/2 for everything else but we don't drink milk as a beverage in our house. Cream and 1/2 & 1/2 have less carbs than regular milk and skim milk seems to have the most carbs...they must add sugar to it.

I use cream or half and half.  Milk has too many carbs.  For cooking I also keep dried milk in the house.

Try a nut milk. Almond, cashew, etc.. Easy to make, creamy goodness and if you stay away from the sweetened stuff it has not so many carbs.

I was never much of a milk lover like you are.  Milk is one of the only dairy items that I cannot tolerate.  Cooked is fine when I use it in a recipe, but to drink it plain sends my stomach gurgling, followed by gas and later diarrhea.  If I'm craving cereal, I just pick up some almond milk to enjoy.

I'll be the lone dissenter. I've never had trouble with milk. I'm not one to just drink a plain glass of milk so I don't know how that would be, but I've made my shakes with it every day since my surgery. I don't like shakes made with cream or half/half, they taste too thick to me, so I just stick with plain old 2% milk.

Milk is a YMMV thing.  I tolerate it just fine, but I do not want the carbs from milk.  I use half and half in my coffee, but I have no desire to just have a glass of milk.  A lot of people's tastes, including mine, changed post op.  You may not even like it post op.

I use Almond milk.  Love it!  I had been Lactose Intolerate (of milk) before surgery for quite awhile.  Milk has a lot of carbs.

this has all been very informative and eye opening.  I suppose Ill have to just try it out and see how I do post op.  I'm at the point personally, that no eating or drinking change is too drastic.

I was a huge milk drinker.  Post op I had such a hard time with my taste buds the only thing that tasted good was milk.  I have heard if you drink it to early you could cause and intolerance.  I had neither problem however I lost wt at much slower rate then others posting on newbies on facebook.  I am stubborn and after a few month stall I traded out my milk in my protein shakes for 2 ounces of heavy cream and water much less carbs and I am going down again.  I like my shakes to be like slush so the ice is not blended as well.  I put one scoop of protein powder, 2 oz of heavy cream, almost a full glass of ice and fill to the rim with RO water and blend for 15 seconds.  Now it might be that I have lost it but in my mind these shakes are a treat and taste as good as when you were a kid and made one.  I do have a habit of finding something I like and sticking with it which I think variety is probably better but I am boring what can I say????????????  One of the reason the vit are so imp.  So in summary because nothing seem to go down well but milk I did drink it early on it did not cause problems but that was just me.  I did fine with milk but meat would bother me now I am fine so long as the meat is not fatty.  Nexium was my friend 2 x a day.

Hope this helps.  Milk is not suggested not sure if I made the right choice but I did what I did and above was the honest results.
