Hi! Just want to introduce myself!
For me, I'm tired of yo-yo dieting, and I definitely do Not want to deal with being SMO and sick for the rest of my life. I've had family members loose limbs, and eyesight. I'm not doing it. I know the DS will save me, and my husband....I'm looking forward to this journey!
Welcome aboard. Ask all you want. We have all had different experiences and that creates a wealth of knowledge. The ladies and gentlemen here have been such a great support over the last 6.5 months since my surgery. I have lost 120 pounds and have 63 more to go to get to my goal. Just this past week I took my 12 yod and 5 yos to the park. I ran laps with my son. I could have NEVER done that pre-op. I loved it. He loved it. There will be an adjustment phase but you will feel so much better. Good luck.
Welcome to the site. You will find lots of people here willing to help with any questions, they have helped me many times. I keep reading and checking in everyday even if I don't post, you never stop learning here. Good luck with your surgery and don't worry too much about what other people think. They just don't understand or know enough about the surgery. I love my DS. Barb
Welcome. I was considered a light wt at 207 and I can tell you at 154 per the scale in the gym today I am able to keep up with my 11 year old so much better then I did one year ago. Unlike myself as I am a failed lap band I am glad to hear this is your first choice as in my opinion it is the only effective WLS out there. That said the only negative is the number of vit we must take in a day and we must take them for the rest of our lives. Not to be a downer simply want to make sure you are aware as it can be overwhelming at times however that is the choice I have made to be at a reasonable wt. My first 6 months my stomach was very sensitive however nexium twice a day resolved that. After the 6 month mark I only occasionally need it. I do use protein shakes to start my day off as it hard to get in the amount of protein we need when my stomach is so small although from what I understand it should stretch over time. Another blessing I discovered was vitalady who puts packs together for your vit requirements and it simply makes life easy as it is a no brainer. Since i have traded out heavy cream in place of milk in my shakes my stools are more like before my surgery instead of the pasty mess that never seemed to get clean unless I got into the shower. Sorry if this was a bit TMI but I wanted to give you a picture without leaning to one side or the other. However to be perfectly honest now that every thing has settled down I am glad I did it but I may be to new to base any decision on as my surgical date was 2/14/2012. I did have loss of hair up to the 6 month mark but I had a full head of hair to begin with and I have been told if I increased my protein and fat that might not have happened.
I wish your whole family the best and pray all turns out well for you no matter what you decide.

Do you feel like you traded one problem for another? This is my husbands concern....that he won't feel "normal" anymore. What is it like in comparison with your Pre-DS life?
My Dh was wondering if getting the DS would be like trading one disability for another. I told him I didn't think the DS would be anywhere near as bad as diabetes, high blood pressure, and possibly getting a foot cut off....but I told him I'd ask everyone how they felt about it. If the having to eat on schedule, and taking tons of vitamins feels as oppressive as being Obese, and having co-morbidities? How hard is it to ajust to your new DS life?
Hi! May I ask how old your DD was when you got your DS? I'm wondering how much help I'll need with the boys after I get my surgery. Will I need help after the first week?
