Very Overwhelmed!
I think you are the person who asked about the aol forum I am not that up to date on how to ask someone to a new group if you could friend me on facebook then I think you will see the groups I belong to and we can figure it out together. I love this site as it set up nicer but the facebook for new DS'er is nice because you are either going through the same thing as they are or in your case you can see what the new DS'er are going through prior to your DS.
Thanks
Donna
Donna Landgraf in Peoria AZ put in your message you are from this site so I know who you are.
Then we can figure it out between us how you can join the beginner DS group as I find it helpful. It was my error it was someone else who was asking me about the group on facebook but I remember when I was gathering info prior it was helpful for me to get as much info as possible and I think you will find the other group in addiiton to this one very helpful. I wt in today at work for a holiday challenge if I stay with in 2 pounds I will be entered into a raffle for extra time off!!! Per the scale I went down to 154 but that may be just a difference in scales in the gym. I do not wt myself at home as I found it to be discouraging as the scale goes up and down depending upon the day. I hope I am off my plateau as I have been 157 for a few months in fact I went back up to 162 because of eating candy in the work place I stopped that and dropped it with in a week.
Hi Tonya,
I think it is a normal reaction pre-surgery to be worried about what you will eat post surgery. If your like me, you can't imagine that a few bites of protein will fill you up but trust me it will. I don't feed a family every day but I have made a point of going out to restaurants and entertaining friends and family at home because those are some of the things I enjoy doing. I have changed a bit of the choices of what I cook when I have company but I am still eating "normal food" i.e. I did a chicken strogonoff for diner last night. I had the chicken with the mushrooms and onion and sauce mixture with 2 snow peas and three lenghts of rice noodles which I ended up leaving behind because I was full. My guests loved the rice noodles as they had never tasted them and they likes that it had 20g less carbs than regular pasta. I ate the same thing as everyone else and didn't feel set apart. Sure for the first couple of weeks you will need to figure out what your tummy will and won't take in but it does get easier as time goes by. I joked that I was like a baby starting to eat solids and some days the carrots (just an example) go down and some days you spit them out...
You will do great. Just need to relax and learn as you go.

it is ok to feel overwhelmed...we all do, we are all here because we have some issue with food (physical or biochemically) the first month will probably bethe most difficult, just cause you just had surgery, but i was allowed to eat basically what i wanted PO, working on protein only for a while, I ate yogurt, eggs, and cheese a lot you will be ok, take one day at a time, if you don't have anyone to cook for the first week PO for your big family, suggest freezing meals for your family, like lasagna, beef stew, shepherds pie, etc, this way you can enjoy your yougurt and cheese the first days PO not worry about cooking etc....you will be ok and learn to eat protein and low carb veggies then adding others as your surgery matures....just come back and ask for more help, very excited for you...
Thank you all so much! I sat down with my family and explained to them the changed that were going to take place after I had surgery. They were able to ask question along with gain a better understanding on what is to come. Then my husband and I sat down and figured out a way to make things run smoothly for both myself and everyone else. I can not begin to explain to you all how much you have helped with this process! I am so blessed to have people I have never even met take time and help me on this journey. I feel so much more confident with the plan we have in place and the information given to me by all of you amazing people! Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to share with me your pearls of wisdom! God Bless you all!
I feel your anxiety. I had it too. I have to cook for the rest of my family as well. I have done what Valerie suggested. I cook a protein and low carb veggie and a starch. I then eat the protein a a little bit of the low carb veggie. If the starch is potatoes I will sometimes eat a bite or two. Here is this weeks menu's for my household.
Monday- Pork chops, green beans, mac-n-cheese (I won't eat any of the mac-n-cheese)
Tuesday- Cube Steak, brocolli & cheese, mashed potatoes (I will have a 2 Tbs or so of the potatoes)
Wednesday- Chicken Tacos (I will eat the chicken, sour cream, cheese, a few tomatoes, & maybe some lettuce & salsa
Thursday- Chicken and Rice Casserole (I don't make this often, because I will make myself a seperate chicken breast)
Friday- This is always pizza night at our house. I make it from scratch even the crust, I make myself a Brok's Pizza. If I make the full size version I have leftovers until Wednesday. The leftovers are better than the firsts.
I hope this helps. Good luck.
