Antidepressants
Your doctor should be able to tell you which ones are weight neutral. I know that Wellbutrin doesn't typically cause weight gain, but it can make you a bit jittery. In general, newer generation antidepressants aren't too bad for weight gain. If you know that Lexapro worked for you, that would be a good place to start. Each of the antidepressants works a bit differently, finding the right one is often a matter of trial and error. People also experience different side effects. One of the psychiatrists I work with said that he has often observed "weight-neutral" drugs cause weight gain in some people, but not others.
I hope you feel better soon!

I took Effexor XR a few years ago and it caused me to gain over 20lbs that I lost immediately after I stopped taking it. Now that's me, everyone is different. I've been taking good old Prozac for years with no issues.
P.S. DS patients should not take any XR (Extended Release) medication. It doesn't work for us because it goes through our system too fast, so you will need to take 2 pills a day instead of 1 XR.
Well that would make sense why they needed to dble my effexor. With my loss of children and it has been over 13 years I fear ever going back to that dark place and I am sure I use it as a crutch but around 2 months before my father passed away I asked to be placed back on effexor and I have no desire to come off of it. I have had to reduce my dose related to lack of ins and the cost. I have tried the generic version which you take 3 times a day but it upset my stomach. when I was in occupational nursing I had a person who actually lost wt after being placed on effexor. I think that is why they have a number of antidepressants as one may help one person but not another. I had no issue with prozac years ago but I remember having a strange stuffiness in my head when I tried zoloft I never made it through the 3 weeks. I am upright and happy and because of that I do not want to change a thing if you know what I mean or if you have ever been in that dark place you would know what I mean.
Good luck and I wish you mental and physical health.

So if you were having symptoms of diabetes would you look for an herbalgodonlyknowswhat in a bottle at Walmart or would you have yourself evaluated by a doctor?
The OP at some point was diagnosed with something severe enough to be put on Lexapro in the past. I hope I see the day when mental illness is actually treated like the real, life threatening disorder that it is.
