Two days before surgery or for the whole time if you want, push lemon water.  Just add lemon juice to the water you are drinking.  It will help rid your body of excess water as it is a diuretic.

Have had lots of experience with edema.  What works well are surgical compression stockings and extra time lying down FLAT in a bed (not a recliner or on the sofa but FLAT in bed).  You can get thigh high compression stockings at well stocked drug stores or medical supply stores.  Take a tape measure with you to measure your legs according to the package sizing directions in order to get the correct size.  You will need assistance to put them on because they are very very tight. Put them on a couple of days before your appointment and leave them on until you are done with your appointment.  Have personally lost 12 lbs overnight using these (and in conjunction with a good poop.)  But again, you have to lay down flat so that your legs are no lower than the level of your heart - keeping your legs elevated above your heart level works even better.  This won't change the amount of fat in your liver but along with your diet plans this should help get you past that 10lb weight loss mark.

I wear compression socks every day for the last three years. I have white ones and I have dress black ones too!. besides that, I take furosemide and triamterene every day too. with these pills and socks I'm able to keep edema under control for the most part but every now and then it's almost like a backlash type of thing and it throws me for a 10 pound loop, like yesterday. I got on the scale and my weight was at 314, that's up 8 to 12 pounds from last week.
