Add fat to your diet.  BACON, full fat Greek yogurt, butter, olive oil, sour cream.  FAT is your friend.

I also use a lotion that you use in the shower and rinse off.  Forget the brand.

Agree with Becky's suggestion to increase your fat intake. Besides eating more fat, try applying jojoba oil, coconut oil, sesame oil or other oil of your choice to your skin after bathing.

If you are talking about Cetaphil as a cleanser, then it is gentle and will not dry out the skin more.

If I up my fat, then I have bathroom issues.  I leave it at medium and do everything topically.  From creams to Jojoba oil.  My skin has come back from the desert!  Remember for lotion, get unscented.  The reason being, our livers are still processing a lot with this surgery.  If you add a fragrance, it is processed too (very unhealthy).  Our skin is our largest organ.

Good to know I would have never thought about the scent.

Thanks

increase your fat!

also i would switch to an oil instead of a lotion. there are several types of oil that are great on the skin and you can pick which one you want. either would hydrate you quite a bit. most people apply it right after their shower to keep the moisture in.

i have dry skin as well because it is winter here in Montana and i have just naturally drier skin plus i have kp on my arms.

chicken skin or keratosis pilaris (kp)

its on my upper arms its kinda like goose bumps and they are tiny red. 40% of adults have it and it is genetic. its not curable and is caused by dry skin as well as a combo as producing to much protein in the hair follicles.

Doctors have told my non-DS friends to add more oil into their diets for dry skin. Adding more fats to a DSer's diet always works, even though we malabsorb some of it.

I always use an oil product in the shower. Its a mango sugar scrub by The Body Shop. I stock up at Christmas when I can get it on a good sale. I never pay full price because its too expensive. It is for EXTRA dry skin. The scrubs marked for dry skin dont work.

As stated above, any oil applied topically immediately after a shower will work. I use the scrub/oil as the last thing in the shower and blot dry. I recall my dr telling me something about making sure you apply any topicals within 3 minutes of getting out of the shower/water. I get the added benefit of no static cling with my clothes this time of the year as well.

I am one year out, and have had no dry skin issues. This regime works well for me.

Dont waste money on cheap scented lotions from say, bath and body works. The fragrance oils are drying to the skin (per my doctor). I have used them in the past with zero success.

We have had issues in our family with ezcema. If you end up with red itchy bumps, save yourself some money and get treated by a dermatologist. I spent lots and lots of money trying to self treat my son!
