im reading up on this procedure mainly the risks that can occur.....my question is for those who've been post op for a few years..does the risk grow less regarding leaks  and abcess as the years go by? From what im finding out you can still get leaks and abcesses years out? am i correct or is that wrong?

My understanding is that leaks are less likely the further out you are. It does happen but not nearly as often as initially post-op.

The risks of leaks/abscesses are short term - after a few weeks, if they haven't happened, they won't.

However, the risks of nutritional deficiencies are for life, which is why the requirements for protein, vitamins and minerals, and associated lab work, continue for the rest of your life.

My leak happened within a few days of the surgery. I would ask your surgeon this question but I think the high likely hood is you see it early on or you will not. Best of luck, Terri

Once the initial healing is complete, it is extremely rare.
