Hello ,I had my switch on 10/16 , Is it strange that  my sense of smell is crazy, I can smell everything and then some.

The odors actually make me nauseated. Two weeks post-op and my Dr. put me on the soft diet. which I could barely  take,

I stayed nauseated for 4 days. Any suggestions for what foods  I could eat. I've been eating  Greek yogurt  and chicken

stewed in cream of chicken soup, cheese and crackers, slices of turkey. But when you throw up a couple of times food does not

seem palatable.  I have lost 30 lbs since surgery.,But I don't want to be sick or dehydrated. I did order some chewable vitamins

and calcium. Although overall I do feel better this week. I would appreciate any advice . I go back to work next week, but I dont

quite have the food thing down.

Concentrate on fluids now and eat small amounts of what seems especially palatable to you.  There will be time to add the protein and vitamins when you feel better.  I was a mess up to about 6 weeks out, then I was able to do better on the protein and vitamins.

Make sure you are taking a PPI once or twice a day.  Things improved considerably with the addition of the PPI for me.

Within the next 3 or 4 weeks you will feel much better.

Are you on Prilosec (an 8 week prescription so your insurance pays for it)?  If not, thats why the nausea still.  Your stomach is a "one-trick-pony".  It only has one response:  cramping up.  It's in pain, having a line of staples in it.  But it only has one response:  cramping up, which translates into NAUSEA.  Hence, the yucky feeling.  The Prilosec will take care of that, provided you take it correctly.  Read the directions.  Take it FIRST THING in the AM, with just a SIP of water, then WAIT 20 minutes before drinking/eating anything else, to give it time to work.  If you don't take it correctly, you might as well just flu**** down the toilet.

Lay off the calcium and vites for awhile, just a few days to let the Prilosec work.  Then introduce just the vites slowly.  Capsules are easier on the stomach than tablets.  Chewables are better, too.  Take them with greek yogurt.

There's nothing wrong with staying on the liquid diet longer if you're nauseated by solids.  Just make sure you're getting in your fluids so you don't dehydrate.

Ask your surgeon for an extension to stay off work longer if you have to.  You only get one chance to heal properly, and going back to work too soon will F that up for good.

I stayed on Isopure Grape Frost for the first week due to nausea and diahrrea.  I also drank my surgeon's "packet" diet of protein soups.  I got in at least 90 grams of protein from day one with those, and they were all liquid.  I had minimal hair loss, which I attribute to high protein intake from the very beginning.

I.  am.  not.  a.  doctor.

Tell your doctor that you are that nauseated because that is not OK.  Get a prescription specifically for nausea. Zofryn (sp?) works wonders.

I had mine on 10/23 and I am with you on the smells.  My boss and husband smoke and now the smell just gags me.  Other things, too.  I hope we get over this!

I am also gagged by most pureed foods and scrambled egg.  I can choke down a protein drink but most things taste too sweet and it is hard to get them down.  I do better with my liquids than my proteins, and I did much better once I took my antacid.

 Hang in there!
