found a new doctor attempting a ds revision
Just did my endoscopy today i am attemptiing a revision. I was considering two procedures the sleeve and the ds. I knew the surgeon I was seeing didn't do the ds but does do the sleeve so I felt ok with going with a sleeve however as i was laying on the gurney waiting for the procedure the surgeon shows up and we discuss what is about to happen and I mention to him that i was interested in getting the sleeve instead of just fixing the original pouch of my rny. He indicated that that type of revision surgery was risky and something that couldn't be done... I guess im just pissed that he didn't go into detail of what type of revision surgeries he does during my initial consult..or maybe it was just my fault for not asking and just assuming he could revise a rny to a different type of surgery. I am now looking into a ds revision with dr paul kemmeter in grand rapids,mi he has been doing rny to ds revisions and will be attending a seminar nov 17th to get more info and to start the ball rolling.
Good decision!
Revision means different things to different people. Apparently you and this surgeon did not have a meeting of the minds. He is right that this type of procedure is higher risk, but if he said it couldn't be done, he's wrong. Since I wasn't there, I'm not making accusations, just saying that it CAN be done, albeit with higher risk that a primary DS. But there are only a few surgeons doing this type of revision, so you, or anyone else considering it, must make sure to get to the right surgeon.
I think Dr. Kemmeter may turn out to be a great choice, and you can always get copies of your medical records, including from the endoscopy, and transfer them to him. So your procedure today was not a waste of time at all.

Good for you. Getting rid of that pouch and getting a real DS was my goal as well. Glad you switched doctors.
