Splenda (Sucralose), Equel (Aspartame), Sweet n Low (Saccharin)
If you're a RNY, honey will give you the same dumping syndrome as simple sugar. If you are a DS, you can use honey, but you will absorb 100% of it, again because the body treats honey no differently than simple sugar.
If you are still counting calories, that means you will get all the calories and carb grams.
Stevia is the only one I do not react to, pre op and post op. I am VSG and have Crohn's Disease, so not the same procedure, but any other artificial sweetners besides Stevia gives me bad side effects. Probably because Stevia is the most natural one and at this point in research, the best one out of all of them. Crystal Light Pure is made with Stevia.
“Not many of us are living at our best. We linger in the lowlands because we are afraid to climb the mountains. The steepness and ruggedness dismay us, and so we stay in the misty valleys and do not learn the mystery of the hills. We do not know what we lose in our self indulgence. What glory awaits us if only we had the courage for the mountain climb. What blessing we should find if only we would move to the uplands of God.? JRM
Not all 'artificials' cause diarrhea. The sugar alcohols are notorious for having a laxative effect, but Splenda doesn't. Honey is no better or worse than regular table sugar---you're going to absorb 100% of the calories from either. If you can't tolerate any non-calorie sweeteners, use whichever you prefer.
