At work there is so much food that is not good as in literally candy non stop.  I was in a class today and a coworker shared some raw nut trail mix from trader joes the only addition which would not be considered good for me is the raisins if I am a grazer can I snack on this and not worry?  Did post on new ds site on fb but was curious what vets might think.

I made my own trail mix for a long time my first few years post op.   It became an addiction throughout the office and they started donating me money to make more.  I would use a can of peanuts, sunflower seeds, then some mixed nuts or pecans.  I would also add chocolate chips (semi-sweet, less sugar) and raisins.  Keep the raisin ratio low enough to get one each handful, but not too much.  I also liked dried cranberries, cherries, and blueberries, but also keep a low ratio.

Yummm...

We would make our own granola to put in trail mix.  That is a thing of the past now for me, but my husband and kiddos love it.  I use raw nuts like raw almonds (blue diamond brand) and raw sunflower seeds (from whole foods).

I can't wait till I can have nuts again!!!

Many people make their own trail mix using their favorite nuts and fun pieces of sugar free candy or dried fruit.

I think the trail mix is a great idea for protein. For me personally when I tried my own and the one at New Leaf (like Trader Joes) it did not agree with me and made me run for bathroom. Has anyone else experienced nuts not agreeing with them. It is too bad because I like nuts, they are a good alternate protein source and I thought the trail mix a good idea. Thanks, Terri

I always have a bowl of nuts handy to keep my protein up & I have found a few trail mixes I like. Costco has something great with pumplkin seeds & cashews and I can go thru that fast tho I know it has carbs too as it tastes sweet . . .

thanks every one.  I was fearful since I tend to snack all morning on the trail mix I would risk a gain................  However I am up 5 related to poor habits in the work place.  I have been exercising but I do not think from the looks of my body it is muscle wt.  My cohort gained 5 pounds since our start date of 10/13 and 10/14.  I need to get a check on it before I lose the window of wt loss during the first year.  I have also been drinking juice which is sugar and that was not somehting I use to do.  Bad habits and creep back in before you know it

I was a Pom juice drinker before surgery.  OJ too!  Now, I have Pom about once or twice a week is all.  I realize that it will be my carbs for that day!
