Glad to find someone else who agrees.
RNY to DS 210 lbs gone for 5 years.
I use one called PlantFusion and I love it. It is a powder, but great plant enzymes. Also, Soy free, dairy free, gluten free and sweetened with Stevia. One serving is 120 calories and 21 grams of protein.
“Not many of us are living at our best. We linger in the lowlands because we are afraid to climb the mountains. The steepness and ruggedness dismay us, and so we stay in the misty valleys and do not learn the mystery of the hills. We do not know what we lose in our self indulgence. What glory awaits us if only we had the courage for the mountain climb. What blessing we should find if only we would move to the uplands of God.? JRM
The dietician doesn't know what she's talking about.
According to my surgeon, the absorption rate for *any* protein for DSer's is 50-60%. However, animal protein is more bioavailable ( better used by the body). With vegetable protein, you may be absorbing even less than the 50-60%, because the body is not able to assimilate it as well as the animal source.
Hello guys I usually lurk on this site but, felt the need to share my experience with being a 90% raw vegan(in cold month I cook my legume) post DS.
I have been a 90-95% raw vegan on November 1st, it will be one year since I change my diet from SADSD(standard american ds diet). I was afraid even though the research I did was solid I was afraid to let go of meat, dairy and my whey protein. I had my regular labs run before embarking on this way of life and had to tweek my diet by adding Moringa leaf & spirulina, chia, hemp and canary seed and chorella for additional Protein source.
I occasionally use rice or hemp protein powder when I am not eating much green leafy vegs or fruit. My labs have been spot on. I no longer take vitamins because, I am getting them from spirulina & Moringa and my diet. I am still supplementing with otc vitamin is B-12 methylcobalamin . I use to get Iron and Vitamin and Calcium infusion and I did have to get one the early part of the year when I started my new lifesyle but, since then my ithose levels are spot on.
As for my labs I use vitalady guideline for labs. I am so pleased with my result they are on the high end as I like them to be since I change my lifestyle to raw vegan. Oh I am taking a organic MSM powder. My health is thriving without the whey protein and the excessive amounts of meat and dairy.
I just want any one that is on the fence about changing there diet to vegan or raw vegan that, one can have optima health on a raw/vegan lifestyle imho. Also if you just want a change from soy lethicen that is in whey protein there are alternative such as the Protein powder the the other posters mention.
