Just wondering if anyone is taking Creon?  Did it help?  Any side effects?

I was given it today but the pharmacy had to order it.

I have been on creon numerous times. Early out my surgeon put me on it to prevent gall bladder removal..it didn't work because I lost so much, so rapidly. I was put on it during my pregnancy and it did help me to gain weight and feed my baby :) As of recently I was put on it to help me to absorb more from vitamins and protein but it has not helped... I think it's a great options and worth a try. Many benefit from it. So as far as side effects, mine was minimal weight gain. Good luck!

I thought it was a lifelong thing.  Not an on/off.

no, not according to my surgeon or GI doctor..though I suppose that's based upon what it's being used for..

Creon is typically used to cause the person to absorb more of their food and thus stopping their weight loss.

Your GP put you on creon or your surgeon?

Surgeon, I'm not absorbing much, you should see my legs.  They are the tale tell sign.  He is also doing a bunch more tests.  He didn't mention it would stop the weight loss.

Yep - it will indeed slow or stop your weight loss, which is why most people go on it, and only for a short period of time.  If you stay on it, you'll have to be watching what you eat calorie wise if you have more weight to lose.

Val, I am no where near goal.  He did not bring this up at all.  I am not absorbing enough.  I am having a 100 grams in protein shakes in addition to food.  He said it's almost if my body is rejecting food now.  Have you known of anyone else going through this?  What did they do?

Creon was ordered because your legs look thin?  What did your lab results show?  What is your protein level?

My legs from the knee down are double my thighs.  The doppler does not show a blood clot.  He wanted to be sure.  It is not enough protein in my system.  We are waiting on labs.  He's seen it before.  He said I am not processing food correctly.  Since I've had 2 hospitalizations for pancreatitis.  This is his next step.
