Hello all
I am almost a year post op from a revison from the lapband. I am down about 80lbs..10lbs(lightweight) from my goal weight. I am having issues with accepting my new body. When I look at myself I still feel fat and when I view pictures of myself I look extremely skinny and I think I look crazy!!  It still hasnt sunken in yet. Would you consider getting professional help about this or will this feeling go away on its on?
Thanks in advance!!!

It normally takes awhile to adjust to the new size--a couple of years.  How would you describe your problem? Is it to the extreme where you still where clothes that are way too big, or is it slight and you just don't recognize yourself if you glance at your reflection in a store window or something like that?

Perhaps if you kept before and after pictures around so you see them often it might help. You could try it for a few months, and if you still feel totally off, seek therapy or support of some kind.

I think that because you are still so "new" at this, a lot of it will go away with time. That said, I do feel it's important to have support as you go through it. I highly recommend finding a local support group to attend. It doesn't have to be DS specific and can be all surgery types but it's good to be with others who know what you are going through.

What you're feeling is pretty normal, and may subside in time, however if you are really disturbed by it, then seek help working through it.
