How long until I can lift stuff??

11 weeks out, lifted a couple of small suitcase-like cases from a tall counter.  Maybe 15 pounds each?  I hurt myself.  There was a sharp pain in my bellybutton incision now it just aches.  My job restrictions were no more than 10 pounds for 8 weeks after my return.  I'm past that.

How long, roughly, can I expect to have to worry about lifting?

I would have said 8 weeks, but since you are past that point, no clue...I am retired so lifting wasn't on my plate for several months...No more than about 10lbs anyway. But I did wait til after 6 weeks to go from 5 to 10 lbs.

Maybe a check with your doctor.

Sounds like it might be a good idea to get that lifting restriction extended by your surgeon or PCP.  I had been told by my surgeon, I could start lifting after 6 weeks but I will be at 6 weeks on Tuesday and I am nowhere ready to lift anything heavy so the weights will wait another couple of weeks.

If it's not better on Monday I'll call. AND I'll stop being so freakin' stubborn and start asking for help. *sigh*

You need to baby yourself as long as you can within reason.  I was 1.5 yrs out when I popped my hernia.  I was being stubborn and didn't wait for help lifitng a soaking wet bag of topsoil.

Dr. K extended my restrictions until my next appointment on the 24th.  The little timekeeper chick in HR tried to mention worker's comp.  I don't THINK so.  Even if my arms were STILL attached to the cases I lifted, I wouldn't do it. yeesh.
