QUESTION FOR DSERS MANY, MANY, YEARS OUT!
Are their any DSers who have not gained more than 5-10lbs
from there lowet weight? I am wondering if many years out from surgery,
malabsorption still works as much as it did the first few years?
Any one on this board have surgery 15-20 years ago?
It will be interesting to see if any one answers.
Thanks! Dee.

Many of the long termers might not be posting on OH any more.
My understanding is the malabsorption decreases over time but doesn't totally go away.

I'm 7 years out and have gained about 15 lbs, which is expected (15% bounceback of lost weight - I'm under that) and I still eat pretty freely. I've not ever done any serious dieting since my DS, so I'm sure if I got on the low carb or gluten free bandwagon that I'd drop it in a heartbeat. It's not the way I want to live, though, and I actually like my boobies with more meat on them. It seems to all have gone to my boobs and butt, which isnt a bad thing at all.

I am 4 (almost 5) years out and have gained back between 10-20 lbs. I also lost 15 lbs once I got back into excercising and watching my sugar intake. Now post summer I am 5 lbs heavier than my lowest weight ever, but my body has shifted so what I could wear 5 lbs lighter is the same that I can wear right now. When I focused this past spring to lose the regain, the malabsorbtion worked great. The only thing is, now I can eat more - so ensuring that it is protien first and most was key.
I'm going on 10 years out and I go up and down to around 20lbs more than my low weight. I have no doubt my body has become more efficient and I absorb more than I did immediately postop. I've thought for a long time that something changes in the 4 to 5 years out period that makes it easier to gain and harder to lose. I've seen a lot of people who have lost and maintained effortlessly have to star****ching what they eat around that time.

RNY to DS 210 lbs gone for 5 years.
LOL -- no. I guess I didn't explain myself very well. Sorry about that.
I stopped losing at about 6 months out from my DS. Lost about 80 lbs. Then at 2 years out, I gained back 20 lbs. I stayed this weight for about 3 years. Then over the past year, I've back off my carbs somewhat and dropped about 40 more lbs. So -- my lowest post surgery (what I would attribute to my initial surgery weight loss) was -80 pounds. Then I gained 20, so I was at about -60 pounds. Now I've lost another 30 -- so I'm down about 100 pounds now.
Still not sure if I explained it very well. :)
