A couple of months ago I posted that I was having some possible complications post 5 years D/S surgery with no help from my local doctors. I have been hospitalized 4 times with severe abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. My labs indicate a very high WBC and many other abnormalities. Each time I have been given a CT scan showing no obstruction's but enlarged small intestine and fluid in my abdomen (acites) my liver is normal. I also had an upper GI series (normal) and a upper GI scope (normal) the Asshole Gastrointestinal doctor told me it was be cause I was eating too much food or the wrong foods and put me on a high carb diet with white flour when I was hospitalized a week. He was clueless. Well I ended back in the ER last weekend with same symptoms the CT scan showed increase in acites and enlarged small intestines plus my WBC was over 30,000. I called Dr K and he wants all my records before he can make an assessment. He previously advised me to see a local bariatric doctor but everyone I called in Wyoming would not see me. Does the problem sound like it could be related to something other then my DS? as it will be a huge financial hardship to fly to California for testing if it is not related to my D/S. Please any advise or information would be much appreciated,

Marie

It may or may not be related to your DS.
A white count that high is generally a sign of infection and secures it definitely abnormal. I would at least get all your records to Dr. K and get his advice.

Thanks Gail,

I really do hope it's just an infection as that can be treated easy.  I am also running a low grade fever so hopefully this is all it is. My main problem and frustration is how incompetent and uncaring the medical profession can be at times. I believe these Bariactric surgeons would have seen me if they could make some money off of me but I already had surgery and it wasn't done by them., there are no D/S surgeons in Wyoming and the GI doctor I saw was just a complete idiot, he gave me this huge lecture about how stupid I was for getting the D/S but never bothered to read about it to know that a high carb diet is exactly what I should not be eating. I read his consult that was sent to my Primary care doc and it said my problems were a result of improper diet. How does that cause acites, enlarged intestines and high WBC, any medical student would figure that out.

anyway, thanks for caring

Please do whatever you need to do, in order to get the care that you need. I'm concerned. Those symptoms are not normal and may continue to get worse. I'm not trying to scare you, however, you must remain diligent.

I agree with Gail.. get the records to Dr K and let him review them. Get a back up plan in case you need to go see him after he sees them. I know it can be hard. I have to travel for follow up as well... it takes planning.

Does sound l ike some sort of infection. Hope you get answers soon. Be proactive !

Good luck ! Let us know what you find out.

Thank you both for caring and yes, I plan on being proactive. I have spent the last 2 hours searching the Internet looking for possibilities for my symptoms and test results and have came up empty. I also had a nice talk with a close friend and he told me I could get a bank loan with no problem so I now don't feel so financially stressed. If Dr. K thinks I need to see him so it will be. I trust him 150%. Even if it's not related to the D/S I believe he will get to the bottom of the problem and all will work out. Earlier today I was paralyzed with fear and stress and I have had a lot on my plate lately (more then just health problems) and have been overwhelmed. It's really great to be able to come to this website and find out that people do care and that I am not alone, Thank you all for being here for me and I will keep you all updated as to how this all turns out.

I would also find a "GREAT" Hematologist in your area to review them as well as Dr K.  The Hematologist will run a lot more bloodwork, that's where the answers lie.  I'm not trying to scare you either but don't wait for a loan.  Find another GI Dr.  Do all of this quickly!!!

Wishing you all the best!!!

They are doing CT scans with contrast, right? Otherwise they won't see a blockage if it is in the biliopancreatic limb.
