Anyone revise from RNY to DS with a still small pouch and no complications. Whose only reason for wanting revision is weight gain? please Tell me your story and who your surgeon was. Also if you were denied (by surgeon) what was the reason for the denial?
Hi Muzzled, I revised from RNY to DS last year. My pouch was intact but the opening was stretched, I suffered from hypoglycemia etc. I originally lost 122lbs with RNY I had in 2004 and gained 80lbs of that back. I had my revision surgery with Dr. Mitchell Roslin at Lenox Hill Hospital in NY. I have lost 86lbs and shy of my goal by 4lbs. My surgeon was very blunt about the risks involved and the risk of death, leaks etc. I had educated myself on the RNY to DS conversion and spoke with other that had it before me. I had no complications and happy that I've done it. If you look up smileyjamie72 she had RNY to DS with Dr. K she will be able to give you some info as well.
Good luck to you in your journey.
Best,
Frankie

Dr. Keshishian did my RNY to DS revision in 12/10. He is one of the DS super stars. You can't go wrong.
I had no medical complications other than vomiting and food intolerances for the first 11 months, Jamie and a few others had more serious complications. That being said, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Hi,
I had a RNY to DS revision done in March with Dr. Rabkin - see www.paclap.com. Dr. Rabkin is the other CA surgeon that people recommend. He was very good and basically saved my life given the complications I had in the hospital.
I had regained most of the weight I had lost with the RNY even though my pouch was still small.
This is a complex surgery and I developed a hole/leak in my stomach which is one of the complications risks. I just got my feeding tube out in August. It has been a long haul for me but I have lost almost 100 lbs. Not sure yet if it has all been worth it but I suspect that will just come in time for me. I know I have seen on the board that either Dr. Rabkin or Dr. K are very good choices.
Best of luck to you. Terri

There a so many of us who have had RNY to DS revisions and the likeliest reason for all would be regain... otherwise, why revise?
RNY to DS 210 lbs gone for 5 years.
Well, even though I had complications, I will still reply to your post.
(Complications were:
1/21/12 - My incision became infected. I had to have my incision packed daily, then, when I got the wound vac, the dressing had to be changed every 3 days. I finally had my incision healed up the beginning of March, 2012.
3/21/12 - I discovered my hernia (my alien)
4/9/12 - After I had an ultrasound to "make sure" it indeed WAS actually a hernia, I had a consult (after a lengthy phone call to Dr. Keshishian who told me the same thing that the general surgeon said "Since your incision became infected, you have to wait 6 months to have your hernia repair surgery") with the general surgeon.
9/18/12 - Hernia repair surgery)
Pics in my Profile/Blog.... all updated thru August 29th
Yes, I, too still had a small-ish pouch, it was "long". Had to fight nearly 3 years with insurance, but they finally approved it, and paid.
So, I revised because of weight gain. I was rapidly developing all of the other co-morbidities back. So, essentially, it was only a matter of time before I was in the same boat I was pre RNY.
I know LaToya was denied by a surgeon on the East Coast for her RNY to DS revision, and she flew to the West Coast and had her surgery with Dr. Keshishian.
