I am 11 months post op. I am down from 266 to 188lbs. For the past 2 weeks after I finish eating I get extremely nauseous. I mean almost to the point where I am actually vomiting. I suffer from Acid Reflux but I have been kinda relaxed on taking my Prilosec couls this be the reason? Or can it be early signs of dehydration my mouth and my lips are a lil dry as well. Should I call my surgeon??? Help!!!!

I just met with a new surgeon for a possible revision and she said that a hernia or dilation in the stomach can cause severe acid reflux.  Of course, I don't know if it's that but I started having it at about six months after I was sleeved and even vomited a few times.  It's awful.  They scoped me again and found dilation.  Been on acid prevention medicine for it for 1 1/2 years.  If I forget it in the morning I nearly vomit so now I carry extra in my purse just in case I forget.  I say get it checked out.

Oh and the dilation is in the upper part of my sleeved stomach.  Surgeon said that can cause you to be able to eat enough to get the upper part of your stomach full but then it can't "drain" through the bottom part as fast so it comes up.

Again, I have no idea if that's the same issue you're having but it's worth another scope to figure out how to treat or fix it.  Might be able to "fix" it with a change in eating habits too.  Sometimes I have to drink right after I eat just to get it to go down a little.  Good luck!

relaxing my anti acid med makes me have nausea - so maybe you should try to unrelax your medicine schedule and see if that works before calling the surgeon.  In otherwords, take your meds as directed then if problem still exists seek medical advice.  Just my thoughts.

RNY to DS  210 lbs gone for 5 years.

I can feel nauseous when I miss my PPI, so I would get back on that regular schedule, but would still check-in with the surgeon about it.
I had OHIP approved Duodenal Switch surgery with Dr. Dennis Hong at St. Joseph's Hamilton on March 7th, 2012. Want more information on the DS in Ontario? Send me a private message!
