Managing Venofer Infusions

I have had venofer infusions in the past. It has been about 1.5 years since my last infusion. What level does your ferritin get down to when they give you the infusions again? Thank-you!

I was at 7.2 last year when I got mine. It helped but I'm still only at 11 right now. I'm testing liquid iron for the next 3 months and if my ferritin doesn't increase then I'll get another infusion.

I just finished my 5th Venofer infusion.  I had one every week for 5 weeks.  My ferritin started at 4.  After three infusions, it was at 100.  I will find out next week where I am at.  I think I will get my iron tested every 3 months to determine the future plan.

I was fortunate in that my hematologist has had other weight loss patients and knew that we just don't absorb iron.  I did have an iron absorption test and we found that I did not absorb carbonyl iron.  I have a test tomorrow to determine if I absorb the proferrin heme iron.

You should do a search on the site for DS and iron or DS and Venofer, etc.  There is a lot of information on the site about this.

Good luck!

Ok, thank-you! I will try doing the search too. Mine is starting to trend downward. Said they would wait until I got under 150 ferritin level.
