Got lectured this weekend...

Yesterday, I was lamenting on my gain of 2 pounds and the fact that I haven't lost anything since around week 3 (9 weeks out today) when my friend launched into me about how I'm still eating the "same crap" I used to eat and that's why I'm not losing.

Her point?  I had a chicken strip.  Never mind that it was only A SINGLE CHICKEN STRIP (and she finished off the other 2 AND the fries).  But it was a fried chicken strip. Then she proceeded to buy me, against my protests, a shot of Fireball.  Huh??

Does anyone else have problems with friends who are trying to be supportive but really have no clue?  I'm constantly being told I need to exercise more, eat less (again, no clue), etc.  It's getting really hard not to go off on them...

OK.  Just venting.  Thanks.

I'm going to ask for some honesty here ... the friend thinks you are still eating the "same crap" and you just told us that you've gained a bit AND haven't losted in 6 weeks which leads me to ask ... what are you eating?

I know you are asking about your friend but I'm more concerne about the other things in your post. Your friend may not "get it" but someone who is 9 weeks out should still be losing with no issues---there are exceptions obviously but the majority have no issues.

And further, just because she buys you something doesn't mean you have to eat or drink it. :)

I try to do a protein shake or two a day.  Works gets so busy sometimes, I just can't take the time.  Most nights, I don't eat dinner (still in a nothing tastes good/don't want to eat phase).  I usually have a couple of pieces of bacon or an egg for breakfast, try to have a shake mid-morning, chicken or a hamburger with no bun for lunch, something mid-afternoon, and if I have dinner, some sort of meat.

I will admit, I've made Dreamfields pasta as mac and cheese a couple of times (I calculated it to be around 15 grams of protein for the way I make it) but it doesn't sit well and unless I'm having a HUGE craving, I avoid it.

Since you asked, yesterday's menu was:

Breakfast (went out for brunch with friends)
small spoon of refried beans and smaller spoon of rice
2 sausage links
2 pieces of bacon
small piece of pork rib

Dinner
Piece of Fresh and Easy Parmesan crusted tilapia crisped in some olive oil

Saturday was:
3 pieces of bacon
Protein shake
A Muscle Milk Light
Fresh and Easy BBQ/Bacon/Cheese hamburger patty

I insisted we split the shot, I had 2 sips and that was it.  Alcohol doesn't sit well either.  Kinda like rubbing alcohol poured on an open wound.

Today is my birthday and I'm going out with a group of friends this evening.  Hopefully I can be a grown-up and not cave to peer pressure regarding booze!

I do appreciate all the advice and support I get from this site, you guys are awesome!

Yeah, yeah, I'm going against the norm here again - but its time to start counting what you eat.  I could care less about the carb count - but you should be getting near 100g of protein now, be it solid or liquid.  If nothing sounds good, eat anything protein rich to get that 100g in.  At dinnertime, a serving of ricotta, be it as ricotta fluff, or with a little sauce and melted cheese, it's quick, easy, and packs a great punch for protein.  If you're working diligently to get that protein in, there's less room for carbs, so if you enjoy a bite or two, you won't feel deprived and won't go butt-wild either.

Certainly none of us are perfect .. carbs aren't your friend but neither will some breading or pasta completely stall your weightloss. That said, you aren't getting very much protein at all. If you don't feel like eating, have a shake. Seriously. NOTHING will get your weight going like protein. If you can't stomach the idea of eating, try one of the protein drinks that are like kool-aid---Isopure I believe it is. It doesn't feel like you are eating but you are getting in protein.

Happy birthday! :)

Clutterbunny-

Try 100% whole wheat pasta.  It's actually more tasty than white pasta, and it's higher in fiber.

Did you remove the flour crust from the chicken strip? Prior to reaching my weight goal, I would have carefully removed any breading. I think that would have raised your friends awareness. I hope you know that during your first year or so, the liver is so stressed from weight loss that no alcohol should be consumed. I can't even imagine what you were thinking if you had a drink at 9 weeks.
Forget what you friend says or does. Take care of yourself and follow the proper diet protocol for the DS. I hope you have success.

Not that it matters I guess, but it was very lightly breaded, very thin.

I'm well aware of the liver/alcohol issue.  And I'm thinking I won't do that again!  I've had a sip a couple of times before and I know it's not comfortable at all.  I will admit I did a full shot once.  Once.  It didn't hang around, came back up within minutes.

Thank you!

I agree, it's way too early for alcohol.

Are you a revision? A stall early on is not uncommon in a lot of people.

I'm not stressing on the chicken strip.  Really - it's a little chicken strip!  I ate them (still do) as I was losing and dunked them in gravy - and they're good for 10g of protein if it's from KFC.

My guess is that you're in a stall and a good long one.  These happen, and it gives your body time to adjust to the weight lost.   It may be time to shake things up a bit.  I found that kicking my metabolism in the ass got it moving again.  Nobody talks so much about this anymore, but it was a common practice years ago around here.  Whenever I would stall, I would give myself a week to get through it.  Then, that Sunday I had hubby bring home Krispy Kremes.  I would eat one or two (and it took half the day to accomplish this early out), have a good poop later, and the weight started dropping again like magic.

Now about the drinking -- I highly advise that you cease drinking until you're done losing weight (and stalls don't count for this).  Rapid weight loss is very taxing on the liver, and by adding alchohol, you're adding additional strain on the liver and risking permanent damage..  Is it worth it?  Get an iced tea and enjoy the company and good times.  You've got plenty of life left to live, but for now be the designated driver for a while.
