How long was it for your taste buds to come back?

Just wondering... The Nurse this week said the earliest she knew of was 8 months.

I have been smelling since surgery... now I'm tasting what I eat today.  From the protein shakes to the string cheese to the turkey to pickles (which the nurse said was fine as long as I tolerate them).

I'm only 7.5 weeks out.

It's a weird sensation...Today...

I guess my taste buds started getting more back to normal starting at about 9 months out. I specifically remember coffee being more tolerable then but it had to be the coffee at work because the stuff I made at home was terrible. Now I love all coffee again. It took about a year before I was able to stop diluting my diet cranberry juice. Great question. :)

Mine never went away...didn't know others did. I know they change but go away??? Nope not here.

Pickles, while they crunch, have little to no nutritional value...you need to change that to something that has protein.

I could drink coffee at 3 months, but taste buds in general took 8-9 months I think. Some things haven't gone back to "normal" though. Still can't drink crystal light or eat miracle whip.

Some things' flavors never altered, some things tasted better, some worse.    To this day, sweets are sweeter.   Water rarely tastes good, and I can taste the "tin" in canned food.    Spicy food is spicier too.    I have become a picky eater.     I can taste the chemicals in prepared foods.   My husband says it's all in my imagination, but I swear it's not!

Well duh... never connected the spicier spicy foods to the DS before, but you are right!  Now spicy is too intense and is unenjoyable.  Used to love Mexican food with margaritas, but now don't care for either one.  :(      Water usually doesn't taste good to me either.  But then Dt. cola tasted icky right after surgery and Ithrough a great effort on my part I was able to overcome that aversion... Do you suppose with the same amount of effor****er would once again become palatable?

Some people claim their tastes didn't change with surgery.  Mine did and it was a slow gradual process for them to recover.  Different things sounded good to me and old standbys no longer tasted good.  This was OK with me because it just helped my weight loss and that, afterall,  was the whole point.  :)

I never really thought my taste buds changed after the surgery...I did notice, though, that after drinking protein shakes for so long ANYTHING tasted good! Now, spicy tastes AWESOME! I've been adding jalapenos to everything! I'm almost 8 weeks out.

Nothing really appealed to me for nearly a year.  You've coming close, but even today I go through a lot of indifference with food.

None of my tastes changes after surgery. Everything that I liked still tasted good. Everything I didn't, still tasted bad.
