Any GA doctors besides Dr. Smith do DS?

 Dr. Smith does not take my insurance. Are there any Georgia doctors that do the DS surgery besides him out there? Please Help!

Dr Maynard is the only other DS surgeon listed on www.dsfacts.com .  It's a great place to read and research about the DS.

My doctor is in Knoxville which is about 4 hours from Atlanta. There are also some options in North Carolina. 

Dr. Smith has really good reputation.  I had him on my short list, even driving from Southern Florida.  He is really big on follow-up care.

You might want to consider Dr. Stephen Boyce in Knoxville.  That would be just a 3 hr drive for you.  Very doable even after surgery.  southernlady 5464 saw him and I think she like him as a surgeon just not for the nutrition stuff.  That's no big deal cause you really want to come to this board for that advise, anyhow.  Trust me.  I don't know him but his hospital is good.  You could even drive the scenic back way to avoid interstate and go thru my old stomping ground around Maryville.

When I read your statemement that Dr Smith is really big on follow-up care I actually blew out a blepphh.

I was a Smith patient 3  years ago and only got crappy RNY advice and haven't seen him since my checkup that allowed me to drive 4 hours home.

I send him a copy of my labs in hopes that he may see the light about what labs we need.

But I wouldn't waste my time going to his office.  Maybe in the last 3 years he's changed.

Becky, oh yeah, guess my brain slipped a little there.  I do remember you saying that.  I was actually thinking that he used to want his patients to return to see him on a regular schedule.  Don't know if he still does that......do you know?

You're right...he was mine and shannn's (see post above yours in this thread) surgeon. Great surgeon, LOUSY aftercare!

It's RNY based...they advocate LOW fat and calorie counting for ALL their patients, they also have their own vitamins which have the bare minimum for WLS patients.

However, his office has moved to a new location. He's no longer part of Fort Sanders/Park West but moved over to Tennova. His new office is located in Turkey Creek:

Im sure he schedules folkowups. I'm also sure he and his staff are uneducated in the DS. I'm Glad I had him do my surgery. I think he is an EXCELLENT surgeon who has scrappy follow up and education about the DS.

How about Dr. Sudan in Durham, NC.- straight up I-85 from Georgia.

Nashville has two great doctors who perform the DS.  Dr. Spaw, about whom I've heard great things and Dr. Houston about whom I've said great things.  I'll be seeing Dr. Houston soon for my 4 year follow up.
