Just wondering what everybody does as their weight goes down about buying clothes?, since you are loosing weight all the time what do you do?, I know I am getting ahead of myself since I haven't had the surgery yet but just wondering, we have a bunch of thrift shops and was thinking while I am loosing get my clothes from there and when I finally get down to the weight I want to be then I will spend the money on really nice clothes. But what do you all think?

Consider use of caution when you hit your lowest weight.  Bounce back weight gain before stabilizing is common.  Gaining or losing as little as 5 to 10 lbs impacts your clothing size when you're at a low weight.  Compared to when at the heaviest a 30lb weight loss didn't change my clothing size at all and no one even noticed my weight had changed until 50 lbs were gone.

RNY to DS  210 lbs gone for 5 years.

hi there - someone on here told me to buy  skirts with the elastic waist during my first weight lost period.   boy was i glad i listened to them.
pants can look too baggy and unkempt and i work in a very professional setting.  the skirt thing was genius
i really didn't buy any new clothes until i had lost 40 some #s.  . i could top the skirt with a nice blouse and cardigan or jacket and look presentable.
once i bought a good pair of dress slacks and only wore them maybe 3 times.   in my book, that is a waste of hard earned $$.
one last tip.  when you get to your stable weight, don't buy clothes merely because they fit.  i got all excited about being able to wear a "medium" and  made a few purchases simply because i was ecstatic at my new shape/size.
have someone you trust go shopping with you.  the style that you liked before wl may not be the style that looks best on the new skinner you.

I had a string of stores we called "The Tightwad Trail" across the city. I would hit the thrift and consignment stores at the more affluent neighborhoods. I would consign my clothes to help fund my new purchases, for there was a period of time where I needed to replace my wardrobe every 6 weeks or so, and I could do so for under $100 (work and casual). Even though I'm nearly 7 yrs out, now, I absolutely won't buy jeans brand new. I get brands I refuse to pay full price for, usually for $5 now. I still comb my trail and am amazed at what people throw away, and happy to give items a new life. Even today - whatever I'm wearing has at least 1 or 2 items if not more, that are second-hand.

Be careful buying too far ahead of yourself...I flat out skipped sizes on my way down. And sometimes it was only two weeks between trips to the thrift store.

Different places have different stores...my favorite was actually a consignment store not a thrift store (carried a higher end of clothing)

Such great wisdom about not buying too far out ahead, for your reasons, and the sheer fact that some things just don't fit right!

Not planning on buy anything till what I have is falling off me. I have smaller sizes that I use to fit in  my closet so I am set for a while. Love the skirt idea. Thanks for all the help.

I am still pre-op but my mom had the RNY about 2 years ago and shops alot at the Goodwill store.

Lucky for me, I will be able to use her clothes that she wore as she got smaller to supplement my wardrobe as much as I can

There is a store locally for people who have had wls. It was started by a woman *****cognize a need for people just out of surgery and cruising thru the sizes to have affordable clothes but at the same time have a place to offload some of their old items to someone who will get good use out of them. Business opportunity for someone here?? Could be fun!
