Hi All--have a question what is your favorite and least favorite protein bar/drink or shake? I want to start now trying them out before I have the surgery so I know which ones I like or don't like. If you could also tell me what about them you didn't like that would be great. Thanks everybody

I like CLICK Mocha and Adkins Mocha Latte.  CLICK is a powder and mixes super well in water.  Adkins is a pre-made one in a little carton.  They have only 15 grams of protein so I know there are higher ones out there but these are the only ones I can stomach.  So many get foamy when mixed and that just makes me feel sick, even waiting until the foam goes down doesn't seem to work.

Oh, I also like Unjury Chicken Flavor.  It's a great break from the sweet shakes.  Basically it's like chicken broth but somewhere around 25 grams of protein.  I like to have it in the afternoon to tide me over until dinner.

Good luck!

I don't 'do' either. In my opinion. you can try them now, but that really won't tell you which, if any, you'll like post-op. Tastes change, often dramatically, after surgery.

I'm 8.5 years post-DS, and I've had ONE protein shake (gross!), and a few bites each of a half-dozen or so protein bars. THEY ALL SUCK. EAT BACON. (*grin*)

Seriously---one of the really nice things about the DS that most of us can eat all the protein we need. Some people like protein shakes, and some people really do need to use protein supplements---but the vast majority of DSer EAT their protein.

Try all kinds before surgery but do not buy any in bulk. Your taste buds WILL change and what you like now you may not like post-op and what you don't like now you may like post-op. I know it sounds crazy, but it is sooo true.

I like Clik but it has more carbs. I like Premier Nutrition ready to drink in chocolate. They have 30 grams of protein in 11.5 oz of fluid.

Thanks for the advice, I know after surgery my taste will change was in the hospital last Summer and took over a year before I could even think of oil & viniger & still can't drink some stuff. I know 2 weeks before surgery the Doc is going to put me on only protein shakes till the surg just wondering if there were really any gross ones out there I should advoid. :)

I think Quest bars are good. Their carb to protein ratio is good. I think around 25 carb/22 protein.

(I only use protein suppliments as a convenience when traveling.)

I enjoy Syntrax Nectar Sweets for my shake and Nature Valley Protein for my occasional protein bar. Your taste will change so don't go crazy pre-op! I, too had Dr. Greenbaum! Best of luck!

All I can stomach now (3mo post-op) are the Premiere rtd shakes.  At Costco, they are $25 for 18.  The powders all make me gag.  blech

I love the EAS low-carb rtd shakes, but they don't have enough protein.

 Nope nope nope
What tastes good today may be absolutely putrid as a post op.  You can try for kicks, but don't count on liking it afterwards.  Just get all kinds of single serving packets of different brands and flavors.  Try them all as a post op before you sink any real money into anything.
