Anyone out there have a cc of 125 or more?
Hello everyone! I have been silently reading everyone post, and even going back 4 years ago and reading what everyone asked and what they had problems with. I have gathered so much useful information! I am a Light weight and my mother was also a light weight when she received the DS. She has had complications and she believes it’s because her cc is to short- 100. I have looked long and hard and for the most part I have found that it’s a normal cc. Some people have less. I would feel comfortable with a longer cc but I have no one to speak with that has one. Please respond if you do! I want to know if your weight loss was slower, did you have less malabsorption problems.

Hi,
I have not had my DS surgery yet but I had my consultation with the surgery last month. He recommended 125 cc for me I'm also a lightweight . He also stated that he would do a 100 cc if I wanted after all it was my body he was just giving me his opinion and said we could talk about it more when I see him before surgery.
Good luck,
Trish

The 'average' person starts out with a small intestine measuring between 600-700 cms. Using the Hess method, that would be divied 60/40, with the 60 being the BP limb, the 40 being the alimentary (food-carrying) limb, and the last 100 cms being the common channel. BUT---not everyone has 600-700 cms to start with, so it varies---a LOT.
My CC is 90 cms, and I've had NO complications. I've met people who started out with a total small intstine length of only 400 cms, and CC of around 50 cms.
I think this is something you shoudl discuss with your surgeon.

Lightweight with 100cm common channel and no complications here. It really is a personal choice thing between you and your surgeon. Mine likes the 100cm standard and uses it on all his patients. 125cm is completely reasonable though and I wouldn't have had a problem with it.

I'm also a lightweight...only way my surgeon would do my surgery was for me to have a longer common channel...he was going for 175-200. Day of surgery I got him to agree to the 175.
HONESTLY, I wi**** were shorter but I did reach goal of a normal BMI about 8 months after surgery and then lost about another 15 lbs. This past spring, I lost another 8 due to jaw surgery but have gained that back.
It wasn't that I lost slower...it's the feeling that maint will be SO much harder to control.
My husband (also a lightweight) has a cc of 125 and he's also done very well...he reached his goal about 11 months out from surgery (he had more to lose). He's stayed fairly stable (+/- 5 lbs) for a year now.

Mine is 125cc, also a "lightweight". I was very comfortable with my surgeons recommendation, in fact wanted a longer cc.. Being 58, I'm at greater risk of bone issues. Am not quite 3 months out, have lost 30# since surgery, 10# the 2 weeks before. Best of all, off all diabetic meds, blood sugars normal.
I have a 100cm cc and have had no problems at all. I know that 125cm is pretty common for lightweights. I know one gal who's cc is 165 and she never go to goal, and another with a cc of 65 who had all kinds of problems, but worked them out over a couple of years.
