Haven't posted in forever

Unfortunately, it's not because I have been out living life (any more than when I posted daily). To be honest, it's because I am embarrased. August 24th was my first 'real' surgiversary after having DS in 2011 and total weightloss at that point was approx. 75 lbs. I still have about 85 to go. I was just reading about those who don't lose so quickly and may never reach goal. I don't know whether I should include myself in that group yet or if I could smarten up and kick @$$ during the next 5 months before the '18 month window' closes and then continue bettering those habits.

I wish working out was 90% of weight loss and food 10% instead of the other way around. I am at the gym a minimum of 4 days a week, I love it, I look forward to it, it makes me feel physically powerful - lol. Today I restarted my weigh****chers regimen and that makes me feel like I have some control. If I have to figure out points and record them I have time to think myself out of eating minndlessly.

I have had cause for celebration; at the end of the summer I went into a chest of clothing that I had purchased after losing 100 lbs following RNY (put away that season, never to be seen until now) and I tried some on, only to find they all fit! That really boost my spirits and my determination. Also, seeing people who I haven't seen in a year - they are amazed - it's almost funny.

Anyway, I thought I would post to hold myself accountable. Just because I avoid my online support groups and myfitnesspal doesn't mean I can avoid the bad eating habits that I have not rid myself of. I have not given up hope and realized not everyone drops 200 lbs in 6 months - good thing I came back to read some posts. Lesson learned.

Jennifer, good to see you back here!

People with revisions tend to lose more slowly than those with a primary DS, so you are not alone in this. The good news is that you don't really have just an 18 month "window" - that's RNY talk! People with the DS can, and do, continue losing after that point, provided they continue to eat low carb. That seems to be the key.
Of course, the exercise is helpful as well, and you're doing great on that.

So don't give up hope, do whatever you need to do to keep the eating on track, and you should have lots more weight loss ahead of you.

Thanks Larra
Do RNYers have an 18 month window? Is it because of the villi repopulates avaiable intestine to recreate absorption? We don't have that? (If it exists..)

I really have to get my eating on track. At one point I gave up hope but have had a few uplifting experiences that helped get me back on track.

Not much intestine is bypassed with the RNY and the vili do get better at absorbing calories to the point where very little malabsorption is left. They do continue to malabsorb nutrients and have to remain vigilant with vitamins.

The same happens with DSers' vili, but so much is bypassed that you continue to malabsorb calories, just not quite as many as in the early days.

Hi Jamie, we both fought like hell to get this surgery so I am sure we will continue the fight to get to where we want to be. 50% in 9 months is awesome!

Have you checked out myfitnesspal.com
You can customize it for protein & carb requirements,  You log your food (no points system) and you can log in exercise & water too.

Hi,

Just wanted to add my fear as well. I am also an RNY to DS revision. I go for my 6 month post op on Tuesday. I know the weight loss is going to be low. It is the carbs. I eat too many and I know it and I am trying hard to be better. It seems like the day starts out well and then I will eat popcorn or something at night. I need to just have the protien shake instead.

Best of luck on your journey as well.
