Can you ever have diet coke again after DS surgery?

Yes, just don't let it control you again. It took me almost a year to start back to having one maybe once a day and that's with ice to help kill the bubbles. The first one I sipped by mistake and it burned like hell.

DH gets 64oz bottles of diet Coke and I sometimes bagsy the end of a bottle as I've never liked the fizz even pre-op.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.  We have all seen that coke can take rust off nails.   It can eat away your stomach lining.  Do you really want to chance it?  Is diet coke worth the risk?   Like everything else you will be able to do after the first year, I think the key will be the word occasionally but that does not mean daily....

Trust me I was a real diet coke addict.  I would love nothing more than to have one but that is what I used to do and guess what, it wasn't working for me...

Yes...doesn't mean you should tho. Just keep them as a treat. And bottled/canned was harder at first than one from a soda fountain.

Yes, you can drink soda again, but I would wait until I'm at least a year out.

I don't think it makes any difference whether it's Diet Coke or not, except for sugar content.

I was given a diet soda in the HOSPITAL!  Odd.

My doc was very easy to understand.  He said only calorie free liquids(meaning no sugar).  I could live with that.  I still have my coffee and diet soda.  No problems.

Is the stuff good for you?  Probably not but your choice.
