When I woke up I had no tubes. I didn't even think I had surgery.  They had to tell me three times it was over.

No intubation when I woke up from the D.S. I was not awake when they removed it.

 Thanks Sandra,

How do you feel?  I am having a revision from the RNY to the DS.  I am so excited but nervous.

I will keep you posted.

Hugs, Esther

 Hi Esther,
I hope you have an easy surgery and problem free recovery. Everyone is different. No complications for me, other than esophageal spasms when I drank water. This disappeared over time with the help of a small dose of vallium beginning at  the hospital. I never over ate the whole first year, trying to keep my stomach small. It did take me 6 weeks to adjust to the small amounts of food while I was healing. Now I feel back to normal, just have a very small appetite.  I prefer to have a few protein shakes and protein snacks rather than try to have full meals. Getting in all the 120 + protein each day is never a problem. My only regret is not having the D.S. sooner in my life. I never worried about the surgery because I had full confidence in my surgeon and his team.

No tubes down my throat.

I did have an upper GI later, due to an eating issue and I came to just as they were getting it out, but that's all I remember.  Not unpleasant.  Too drugged to care.

I've been eating like a champ ever since!

I did---but I think I woke up sooner than they were expecting me to. They pulled it immediately, stuck an oxygen canula in my nose, and I went back out like a light. They did keep me on oxygen trough my hospital stay, because my saturation was low.
