Revision from LapBand to DS....
Hi everyone..I am cross posting on this..I had put up a post on the revision forum for revision from Lapband and I had two members encourage me to check out the DS..I have done much research and have had some experience with a friend in the past who had it done but the outcome was not as good for her.
Has anyone here on the list heard of Dr. Alberto Aceves in Mexico? He seems to be well versed in this surgery and was wondering if anyone on the list here has heard of him or used him.
I notice a few posts about feeding tubes? Is this normal with the DS..I know it has Many good advantages but also some very scary negatives.
Just thought I would repost over here as I am taking in all the information I can get at this time!
Thanks.

Hi,
You should check out dsfacts.com for your surgeon information. The feeding tube is not the norm but placed "just in case". I ended up needing it so it prevented another surgery to put one in. My revision was from RNY to DS so more complicated than the band. You should do fine.
Thanks, Terri

Hi Esther,
No the feeding tube is in your stomach. It is very small and much less intrusive than the drains. Really nothing to worry about! I had so many complications I am still on the fence about whether I should have had the revision done. But things are getting better every day so I believe I will come out OK.
Best of luck to you! Terri

Only go with Aceves if Dr Ungson is operating with him. Dr Ungson us the ONLY vetted DS surgeon in Mexico, but he does operate alingside Dr Aceves.

You may have to chase them. They never got back to me, but surgery in Belgium worked out for me so I didn't have to. BTW I did get a reply from them saying they'd get back to me, which more than a couple of months ago.
All the best.

So glad your surgery worked out for you...I actually emailed them and got a response within minutes then I wrote back this morning and I got two emails from them one was the same email since they were worried it didn't come through due to computer problems on their end. So I had all my answers literally within 12 hours! I just have to now make a decision as to what surgery is best for me!! That is the hard part! LOL...
Thanks so much for your input, I really appreciate it!

I just had DS with Aceves and Ungson. They did an incredible job. I could go on and on. The care from the doctors was amazing (two visits by Dr. Aceves a day and two by another doc on his team), my recovery has been spectacular (off pain meds at day 5 and out shopping day 6).
It took a while for them to get me a date because they have to coordinate with dr. Ungsons schedule. My understanding is that they team up because Aceves has so much experience with lap surgery and Ungson is the DS expert.
I had a lapband for three years. Had it out feb 2012. While they did my DS they removed scar tissue from that and my c-sections. I was so pleased as since my first child I have had to pee every hour. Now I am normal. Makes road trips much better.
I didn't have feeding tubes. I've had no complications (thank you lord). When I woke up from surgery I was just tired and had so little discomfort I asked when surgery was starting. My pain never got above a 3 or 4 out of 10.
I would go to Aceves again in a heartbeat.
