It will be worth it. Don't be afraid to take the pain meds. If you are really hurting and worried don't be afraid to call the dr.

Did you have open or laparoscopic D.S? You just had major surgery!!!. Everyone reacts differently during the recovery period. I would call your Dr. There should be an on call Dr available over the weekend to answer your questions about the intensity of pain. They may want to change your meds to give you more relief. I remember having no pain if I held very still, lots of pain trying to get out of bed. Walking was uncomfortable, but minimal pain. I used the pain meds at home for a week, then Tylenol. Everyday you should see improvement. The stomach feeling does take getting used to, but will feel back to normal over the next few weeks, and months. At about 5 -6 weeks most people feel much better. Internal healing is complete at 6 weeks. All this was definitely worth it for me. I would go through it all again to be able to be where I am now, arthritis pain free in my hips and knees. Review all the reasons why you chose WLS in the first place. The changes physically and mentally- free of the excess weight are indescribable." Keep your chin up". It is all worth it !!!!  ;-)

As mentioned, call your Doc and be specific about the pain.  Your stomach just went thru a hell of a shock so you can expect  it to "act crazy."  As far as the back.... many people experience pain just from lying on the OR table.    No clue about the chest... talk to your doc and take the pain meds on schedule even if you have to set an alarm clock.

Different people have different pain thresholds, but definitely contact your surgeon, just to play it safe.

PS give your baby DS time! Right now you're miserable, but in the long run, it will all be worth it.

If you had a lap DS, you might be experiencing something that makes your back hurt or shoulder hurt  - it has to do with the temp of the gas they pump you up with in surg.  Your diaphram isnt' happy.  And in my case, the pain didn't go away for about 2 weeks. (although each day the pay subsides.)  The bad news, normal pain meds don't do much for that form of pain.

Most get it in the shoulder, mine was right in my back and my ribs.  Felt like I had been kicked by a horse.

Pick your surgery first, then your surgeon. Not the other way around.
PS:... Potato chips should be a food group.

I'm tired of screwing with that damn health widget.
I've lost 125 pounds to date!!!!
   And I'm UNDER 190 now!!!

Don't take this the wrong way, but at least you feel well enough to be on the computer. When I was 5 days out, I was doing good to sit up.

But call your doc re the chest pain---never a good thing immediatey after surgery.
