Now What?
I have exactly one month before my surgery. Yesterday I went to the surgeons office for my 2nd consult and asked ask many questions as possible as well as found out that my surgery in 100% PAID FOR THROUGH MY INSURANCE. THANK YOU JESUS because that's all I was worried about when I got there since the fees are due two weeks before the surgery. At any rate I'm super excited, I must admit that I'm getting nervous. Not nervous of the surgery in itself, but nervous about my protein and vitamins and how successful I will be with this surgery. I'm currently working on being/speaking more positively towards myself and everything I do. However, yesterday it was discouraging when the Bariatric Advantage rep was there and I sampled everything and nothing he had I liked. I know that is not the only brand but he struck a cord when he stated, maybe you need to re-think the DS if you don't like anything I've given you. Well, hell it taste like wild ass with a hint of chalk. But when I started thinking about it maybe he's right, but in my heart of hearts I know he said it from a caring place but I want this surgery more than anything. My life truely depends on it, and with that said, you always go the extra distance on things that you want. I do have a mental block when it comes to pills, I can take them but not with water and it takes forever to get them down. So I agreed upon chewables, but the protein I can hardly stomach the closest thing I came to liking was the "egg whites". With that said do you think 1 month is ample enough time to find a protein I like and change my thinking of the vitamins?
Not having the DS is NOT an option.

First off, I'm not a fan of bariatric advantage but there is Celebrate and other companies too. Secondly, you may never find a protein supplement that you think tastes good. I haven't but I took the shakes at the beginning because I knew I needed to. Now I can actually eat enough protein to not have to drink the drinks. I mean, this issue is nothing new. I don't know anyone that likes vitamins or protein shakes but we do what we have to do...or we don't and get sick and/or die.
Thats true, I'm hoping that I will after a short period of time be able to get my protein in via food. I want to try unjury, I definitely agree as I stated earlier that I will because my life depends on it and this is what I want for myself. I just panicked at the reality and his statement because it holds truth behind it. Thanks for the first off and secondly

You need to get over the hurdle of the pills. Chewables taste like ass IMO. Just practice swallowing your pills. As for the protein, your tastes will change after the surgery and you should be able to get your protein from food after a short while if you still cant find a powder that you like.you will do wht you need to or your will feel terrible. You can do this!
I came out of surgery with an intolerance for whey... Eggwhite protein shakes... I do add a lot to them, bananas, 4-6T of peanut butter, vanilla, dark cocoa powder, they only come in Rich Chocolate and Vanilla Custard - I use the brand by Optimum. They are drinkable. Frozen bananas make them more thick. Also, I used the protein bullets... not bad like a jello, but liquid and only 3oz... 2 gulps... much better cold. Start learning to take vitamins with liquid... if you can't take it w/water, try gatorade, OJ, crystal lite. I was doing chewables for 4+ mo, but the sorbitol in them was keeping me bloated, gassy and explosive diarrhea. Sugar Alcohols (SA) are another one of my downfalls.
Remember that your goal the first 30 days is 30g of protein, 60g at 60 days and 90g at 90days.
You can do this. Put on your big girl panties and suck it up. The DS is worth it.

I am not even close to having surgery, but I already worry about the taste of the protein shakes. I am really hoping that my taste buds change enough after I have it that I can eat the things I dislike the taste of now. Hopefully I also get the phrase "wild ass with a hint of chalk" out of my head before then. lol It doesn't sound tasty at all, but it made me laugh.
Wanting the DS!
