OT - Running a Half-Marathon! 6-month Clear PET Scan! WootWoot!!
I almost never post anymore, but I do still read sometimes. I found this forum to be INVALUABLE for so many years. All of you newbies & lurkers, this is a great forum to learn info that you didn't even know you needed for your health.
I am just about 3.5 years out from my DS. One of the best decisions I ever made. I did have appendicitis & bowel obstruction as a rather freak complication, but even that was 2 years ago now. Then had Hodgkin's Lymphoma . . but!! all went well in treatment.
I had my last chemo 1/26 and started exercising again in Feb - nothing too over-the-top. I have slowly worked my way up to the point that I am INCREDIBLY proud to say . . . I am running over 8 mile stretches!! My last run was 8.25 miles and it took me 1 hr 45 minutes.
I'm training for the Nike Women's Marathon & Half-Marathon in San Francisco to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. To make a long story short, my employer response at my relatively new job was less than positive, and after I lost my job, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society gave me a $5,000 grant to pay for my health insurance to ensure I would get good treatment.
My running is the best thing that I could do to help give back to their Patient Assistance Program. More than that, though, after losing my job, my apartment, I had to give my cat away, & move in with an extended realtive, I lost my sense of independence and self-sufficiency (& my poor credit score). Training for this - especially having been MO most of my life - was a fantastic way to feel that I was again in control of some aspect of my life. Running has really been therapeutic for me.
If you would like to read more about my training or cancer journey, please see my page below; HOWEVER, please know that this link is NOT an OH, page. It is my webpage established with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Please do not click on it if you do not feel comfortable in doing so.
Thank you to all of you who have supported me with your wonderful insights, wisdoms, kind words, prayers, and advice throughout the years. You're The Best!
