Hi i have a question about taking medication for pain or soreness after ds. I am almost two months out and i had a open ds surgery with my gallbladder and appendix removed. It has been a long recovery and i still have stomache pain when i work out and i use my core too much. Tylonol is not doing anything can i take ibprofen? My doctor gave me a pamplet that said no nsaids i used take naproxen for aches and pains in my hand. Any help or advice would be appreciated :)
You had open surgery and are not quite two months out and you are working out!?!
STOP IT! You are not healed yet! You continue to 'work your core' and you are going to end up with a hernia. I had open and couldn't lift more than 15 lbs for 6 weeks and then no more than 30 for 8 weeks after that. You don't need to be worrying about working out right now. You need to be worrying about getting enough fluids and protein and healing. Walking is the best thing right now. Take it easy there! Give your body time to heal the right way!
Now, that being said ...yes, you can take Ibuprofen. Take the lowest dose you can and don't abuse it. It can still cause ulcers, but not any more prevalent than on a normal person. I take Ibuprofen on a regular basis for migraines. Tylenol does not touch my headaches, I have to take Imitrex with Ibuprofen to get rid of them. I usually take 400 mg when I take it and usually no more than 800 mg in a day.

My surgeon told me i was good to work out i am still new to all this thank you for your input. How long did you ladies wait to start working out. I have a tendancy to push myself and i have been taking more time to rest. But man i definately do not want a hernia that is scary! I try not to take anything for the most part but my vitamins but man tylonal was not cutting it. I appreciate your input
Not that a hernia from working out could get this big....... This is my Ventral Hernia. (My surgery was an open procedure, and my incision became inected a little over 3 weeks after my surgery)
