Pre-Op Preparation

Even if you had excellent private insurance or were independently wealthy, I don't think there is any DS surgeon in Arizona with a good reputation.  You could inquire if the University of Southern California WLS program will take your insurance.  I do know they accept California's version of Medicaid.  The only one there that I know of who can currently be talked into doing a DS is Dr. Peter Crookes (not sure on spelling).  As much as asking bites, is it possible that your parent(s) would pay for the travel expenses for you to get this in California?  The USC program isn't ideal, such as trouble getting through the support staff, but if one has a poorly-reimbursing insurance or can't afford the extra fees of the most beloved DS surgeons in California, it is minimally acceptable, and Dr. Crookes has respected surgical skill and DS experience.  (Don't let the fact that he does the DS open stop you.)  Also, I'm not sure if you are young enough, but is there a possibility you could get on one of your parent's insurances that might offer better coverage?  If none of these work out, it might be better that you wait until your job and/or insurance situation changes instead of accepting Dr. Schlessinger or some others in your state with bad reputations.

No wonder the nut thinks you will have problems! There is no polite way to say it, but I'll do my best. Find a different surgeon!
