Wasn't it Douglas Hess who developed the DS? Hence the Hess Method for determining common channel length. I had my sleeve and then my switch one year apart. I didn't think, due to my eating habits, that I wold be able to maintain my losses. You can click on my profile and see month by month what I lost.... I have gas when I eat white flour products (high carb)... and I always have loose stools, not diarrhea (see everyone else's explanaions of the difference).... I have had a rare time with incontinence, always in my own home, and usually after eating a LOT of the wrong things. They were a few 'near misses' as I knew I had to go but didn't stop the car and continued the 45 minute drive, figuring I would 'make it'. I remember trying to fly in from the driveway thru the house to the bathroom... LOL live and learn!

I'm 2 1/2 years out, and actually border on the constipated side of things a few times a week (which honestly sucks way more than diarrhea, in my opinion). I actually had way more problems with loose stools when I was pre-op than I have had since having my DS. A lot of new post-ops experience loose bowels because they're on a liquid diet immediately post-op to allow their stomachs to heal - liquid in equals liquid out. Usually the further out you go, the less problems you will have with loose stools because you will be increasing the amount of vitamins you are taking as well as eating a wider variety of food. Any time I do have bouts of diarhhea, it is usually attributed to me eating something I shouldn't have, such as high carbs or something high in lactose content, or it's because I got a stomach/gastro bug.
