Pregnancy post DS and post internal hernia
Hi, new member here urgently requesting some information.
I had my DS in February 2009 and have lost 200 pounds so I feel like it's been a great success.
In July 2011 I had to have emergency for an internal (Peterson's) hernia. Though this was successful, it left me with severe deficiencies in iron, zinc and vitamin D. I was also diagnosed with Addisons disease at the same time!
I have just found out I am pregnant- quite a surprise as we didn't think it possible. But I am very worried that my previous health issues will impact greatly on the pregnancy. I have always been compliant with my protein and vitamins, including the extra supplements I have been taking since last year for the deficiencies. I have had recurrent stomach pain issues since the hernia which I have been told are nerve damage related but the surgery was a success.
Has anyone had a pregnancy after the DS and internal hernia? Can anyone reassure me about this?
I am worried enough about deficiencies but the past surgeries have me really concerned.

Thank you! Can you let me know what page on facebook that is? I'm not on it and it sounds invaluable.
I'll definitely be heading for our equivalent of a high risk OBGYN. I'm also talking to my surgeon, endocrinologist and any other specialists I can get hold of. Luckily I still see them all regularly.

It's going to be really tough because of the deficiencies. A baby sucks the life right out of you! You will for sure need to see a high risk OB your whole pregnancy. I've had 3 pregnancies after my DS but I don't think I had any hernias. I'm still waiting to get my report from surgery and that was in 2004.

Thanks, Amy and Lauri. I've joined the Facebook group and I'm seeing the OB next week to get signed up. I'm going this week for a full round of bloods to see exactly where I'm at right now with the deficiencies.
Is there any food advice you can give me apart from the usual? I aim for 150g of protein each day, though most days I probably get around 130g. Someone mentioned apricots and prunes but I've always tried to avoid anything so carb.
