I apologize for asking a question that has surely been answered before, I'm relatively new to the boards and couldn't find an answer.

I'm trying to help my uncle get weightloss surgery and he is on Medicare, will they cover the DS?

This is a yes, but. You have to find out what the surgeon's policies are. My surgeon had some out of pocket cash fees. One surgeon had a one year wait list for Medicare patients.

It has been so long I cant remember. If you call his office they will tell you. They will also send it in writing and make you sign that you understand. I know I paid Dr Smith, his assistant,, the anssthesia group, the hospital, and the nut. It was substantial but I was able to use it on my taxes and my results are worth 10 times what I paid. Only wishing had done it 20 years sooner.

Yes!

But the real challenge will be finding a DS surgeon who accepts Medicare.

Check out the list of DS surgeons at dsfacts.com.

Back in 2009, when I had my DS, it and the RNY were the only two bariatric surgeries covered by Medicare.

It has resolved most of my SMO health issues.

Yes, BUT like others said, finding a surgeon who accepts it is much harder.
