Live in Arizona and want to learn more about the DS? This post's for you!
My DS surgeon, John Rabkin, has heard me (and a lot of his other patients) whine that there are not enough good DS surgeons to go around out there.
I just learned that he is doing a free information session in, of all places--Arizona--on Sunday, April 29!
I know a lot of people have been disappointed when they have tried to get a real DS or DS revision in Arizona. Well, now a world-class DS surgeon is coming to YOUR neck of the woods to talk to you!
At this session, guests will get to learn about the DS, talk to Dr. Rabkin, and hear from Arizona patients about their improved health and quality of life after the DS. He will talk about "diabesity," the intersection of obesity and diabetes and how the DS can help.
The event will be:
Sunday, April 29, 2012 2-4pm
ORO VALLEY HOTEL AND SUITES
In the boardroom
11075 N. Oracle Road Oro Valley, AZ 85737
Advance registration recommended, but not required at 415-668-3200. www.paclap.com
Dr. Rabkin comes to Chicago for our support group meetings several times a year and it is fantastic! I hope you local guys can make it!

Nicolle,
I have contacted you before. I have changed my name for OH and privacy purposes. I had contacted you awhile back. I happen to be a PAD. I know you know our group well. I am moving to Tucson, and I have been concerned about the lack of DS surgeons in the area. Does this mean Rabkin will be performing surgeries in AZ? Even though I am two years out, I am always concerned about how far I would have to travel should I have an issue...

No, he will still do his surgeries in California. If I can't get him to get a Chicago outpost (he has about 75-100 Chicago DS patients), he sure as hell better not get an Arizona one first!
I think he has had a lot of new patient inquiries from Arizona so he decided to come into town and meet people in person. I understand he has many patients there, too, so while he is in town, he is meeting with their PCPs where possible--good aftercare is very important to him. He met with most of our Chicago patients' PCPs while he was in town in January, which was awesome!
Glad you are moving somewhere nice! Best of luck to you on your new adventure!
