Sugar Alcohols TMI warning
OK warning TMI but I have to tell someone and if I can not tell my fellow DSers who can a girl tell. OK I made a sugar free yellow cake by Pillsbury yesterday with sugar free chocolate icing. Man it might say sugar free but the sugar alcohols kept me in bathroom all night and half first thing this morning with serious diarrhea. I will never make that mistake again.

Also, look for those ending in *itol. Malitol is one of the worst for me. Read the labels... SA over 3 and I'm guaranteed 4-8 hrs of bloating, gas, horrible pains and explosive diarrhea. Check those protein bars... SF anything for me is bad news. If I want something, I do the real sugar... much easier on the body.

And this is not just a DS thing. I have a sleeve - same story. Ick, and cramping too.
Never again. Anything with more than one or two grams doesn't pass my lips! Watch protein bars for this - most of 'em have buckets of the stuff.

I am sorry you had so much trouble with your sugar free cake and icing. Don't bother trying to make the sugar free icing recipe that I posted, as written it uses Xylitol which is a sugar alcohol. For whatever reason I am not bothered by sugar alcohols and I don't really like splenda so Xylitol and Erythritol are my go to sweetners.
How do you handle sucralose based sweetners like Splenda? I thought the Pillsbury sugar free cake mixes and icing used Splenda and not sugar alcohols but I have been wrong many times before.

I wonder if it might have been the white flour in the cake mix along with whatever sweetner is used? White flour keeps my butt glued to the toilet if I eat too much of it. I also have the same problem with white sugar and a combo of the two really does a number on me. I ate a regular cupcake (no icing) a couple of weeks ago and I won't be doing that anytime soon.
