I am three years out, and through most of my plastics. As things start to settle down, and i am finding myself broadening my focus away from just me, my health, and my body... and extending it to the rest of my life--I am losing a bit of that strong hold i once had over my weightloss. Carbs have creeped back in a major way and seem difficult to get rid of, exercise is challenging to find time for, and i have gained 10 lbs from my lowest weight, 173, which i would still like to beat to ideally settle around 165. I am backtracking for the first time in this process, and i am scared. I am scared because I have lurked on here long enough, i have struggled with weightloss long enough, both before and after surgery, to know what i need to do to get these 10 pounds of regain off, and hopefully continue on my weigh to goal. I just cant seem to make myself do it... i am struggeling... and suggestions/help???

                                 3.5 years out--  I am 5'10", 29 years old

My feeling is that it took guts for you to undertake the danger and rigors of weight loss surgery, to emotionally and mentally deal with the rapid changes that took place and the changes that took place in your relationships as well, to find the discipline to make this surgery work for you...my guess is that the guts and discipline and drive are still there, or you would have failed long before this. Try to find some way to tap into that determination again. You don't strike me as weak or as a quitter. You can do this.

I wish you luck.

I would never recommend not to exercise, but.....

My dad had his surgery at the age of 62. He is 67 today. At his age, he was not about to start incorporating exercise into his life. It was not a habit he wanted he felt he could successfully adopt. He wad a succesdful businessman who used his mind more than his body. His doctor told him not to worry about it....let the DS work for him!

He still does not "exercise". But he lives an active lifestyle and keeps busy.

Too many times we try to adopt healthy lifestyles and habits and there is so much to do, that it becomes overwhelming, and we give up. Focus on one thing for a couple of weeks...getting rid of those carbs!  Many people have posted great success even in a couple of weeks, of just getting on track with their eating.   Focus on that and dont get lost with all the other things you "should" be doing. You may find that the drop of a few pounds is the jumpstart you need to encourage you to exercise and take care of yourself.

Finding the right balance of self, family, etc is difficult!  Don't be too hard on yourself. Best wishes!

Just reread my post and want to emphasize...

Two weeks!  Low carbs!  Focus on protein. Two very short weeks of a long life. It is a very small amount of time in the big picture.   Start off with a small goal and see where it leads you!
