If you want to get the DS it is already time to learn to control your own medical care. That becomes a requirement once you have the DS.
So you don't ask your doctor. You tell him. If he doesn't support your decision you find another doctor who will. (Assuming you live in the US where you can do this. I know folks in other countries may not have this luxury.)
I moved after getting my DS and had to go through three docs to find a pcp who was willing to listen to me and learn about my DS. You learn pretty quick to doctor shop until you find someone smart enough to "get it."
So find a doctor who supports your decision!!!!!
